"Every line in this poem is a metaphor for a range of emotions within"

The stream is calm, the water clear,
the sun hides behind drifting layers,
gentle wind hums a minor note,
I row deep, into my old wooden boat,
far ashore, into the lake of my dreams,
in search of that ethereal poem.

Let's fish a few poems today,
they swim free in the sea,
unafraid, unaware, and untied,
they feel freedom in the deep.

Let's use 'sorrow' as bait,
it draws the slowest verse.
I hook it up, and throw it deep,
then reel in a few inches at a time,
to make it swim like a verse;
'til the poem grabs a bite,
and slowly we reel it into the night.

But, it's low tide today,
depths are low and the flow is slow.
I try and try but fail again,
no sad verse, I could catch today.

As evening nears, I try my 'fear',
as bait to catch the biggest pair,
of sharks that lurk in hunt of prey;
eager, hungry, memories grey.

I hook my deepest, silent fear,
swing my longest rod beyond;
gently, I reel-in my mighty fear,
in agony, in hope, in deep despair.

There, she shudders, my entire boat;
it's a catch like never before.
I reel in with all my heart within,
an inch a time, I pull my lines.
I sweat, I cut, I cry aloud;
keep pulling till the sun goes down.

Then it appeared, the flapping fins;
the trembling tail of silver wings.
Tired, breathless, melancholic lines,
I pull it up, into my rhyme.

I stare at the eyes in deep ravines,
the breathless struggle, dying with time,
the urge to catch, no more in my heart,
I lower the verse, back in time.

She swam away, my biggest rhyme,
slowly drifting further in time.
I look up at the infinite night skies;
laughing aloud, I empty my mind,
throw all the baits that I brought to bite.

I row back to the shore;
empty yet fulfilled tonight.
