BOTH JESS AND LOLA were working in the diner before school, and the morning rush was too stressful for the James girl. So far she had been yelled at eight times, poured coffee twenty three times, and served thirty one donuts.

"Coffee?" Jess asked Lorelai.

"Oh, yeah, thanks. How are you Jess?" One thing about Lorelai was that she always tried to be nice, no matter what. Even though Jess was a very grumpy person and wasn't exactly the friendliest, she was still kind to him, and tried to see the best in him.

"Well, I'm not bleeding or anything." He pressed his lips into a firm line as he poured her coffee.

"Well, then it's gonna be a good day, huh?" Lorelai asked, trying to keep her mood upbeat. Jess had to refrain himself from rolling his eyes. Instead he nodded and said,

"yeah." He turned to Luke who was seated at Lorelai's table for some reason. "It's 7:45."

"So?" Luke scoffed.

"So do you want me to go to school or do you want to openly defy child labor laws?" Jess quirked a brow, waiting for the answer.

"Go. Stay out of trouble. You too, Lola."

"Guess that means calling off the chickie run down at the salt flax." As Jess says this, Luke rolls his eyes and points to the door.

"Out." He says simply. Lola and Jess grab their coats and head for Stars Hollow High.

"Nothing ever happens here that's even remotely exciting. Like, literally nothing." Lola complains as Jess walks next to her with a book in his right hand. As she begins to talk he lets out a dramatic sigh and closes the book.

"Like what?"

"I don't know. Like, no ones died in Stars Hollow in such a long time. And only four people die here a year."

"I'm getting the feeling that you're not too fond of this town."

"You guessed it." Lola nods.

"Well if you want something exciting to happen, meet me in front of Doose's at eleven tonight."

"What? You gonna steal some red vines?" Lola joked, not impressed with the Mariano boy's idea.

"You'll see."

LOLA'S HOUSE WASN'T hard to sneak out of, but the hard part would be sneaking back in. She had left her house at 10:57pm, since it was about one minute away from the market. She was stupid to not grab a jacket, but hey, she was in a rush.
