LOLA WAS HAVING the time of her life. Italy was beautiful. Her grandmother, Florence, grew up in Venice, which was nice because Florence told Lola all about the history behind it. She knew the best beaches to go to, where it get food, and all the secret walks that the two could go on together.
They were staying in a fancy hotel, and they would get room service almost everyday. Lola could call her mother and Luka from there, and occasionally she would reach out to Jude when she wasn't busy getting gelato. Sometimes instead of a phone call she would send a letter, and Jude would send one back.
She had been in Venice for one and a half months, and she still hadn't written Jess. She started about fifty letters that were addressed to him, but it just didn't feel right to send them. She didn't know what to talk about with him, and she certainly didn't know how to tell him she realized she had feelings for him.
Lola had never broken up with someone. Her first relationship was with Noah Parker, and he had broken up with her because she had cooties. That was in the second grade, though. She dated another boy before Jude. His name was Oliver. He treated her right, but he broke it off after he found out he was moving away. To California. So to make a long story short, she had no idea how to break up with someone, and that didn't help the fact that she desperately wanted to break up with Jude.
Of course, if she even tried to break up with him, he would laugh in her face and tell her she was just on her period. No matter how sexist he was, Lola stayed with him. The truth was, she was scared of him. He had never physically hurt her, but he was still just an asshole.
So there Lola was, trying to write a letter to her boyfriend explaining that it just wasn't working out. She didn't have feelings for him anymore. It might be wrong to break up with someone in a letter, but Lola was never one to face her fears.
"Lola? Are you alright darling?" Florence snapped Lola out of her trance. The kind voice of her grandmother warmed her heart immediately. Lola looked up from her menu and nodded.
"Sorry, yes I am." The teen smiled, and went back to figuring out what she wanted for dinner. "Were you saying something, grandma?"
"I was just saying that you should remember this scenery. You go back only in a few days." Florence smiled at her granddaughter. Lola nodded.
Lola had told Florence about Jess and Jude. How she had been with Jude since she was fourteen, but somehow she had fallen for someone else.
"You're thinking about him, aren't you?" Florence asked softly, looking into Lola's big brown eyes. Lola looked at Florence and nodded. "Darling, let me tell you my opinion." Florence started. "You're young and in love. From what you've told me, Jess is also in love with you. And like they all say, if you really loved the first, why did you fall for the second? It's entirely you opinion, but break up with Jude. I never liked him anyway."
