AFTER JESS HAD cleaned the Gilmore's gutters and got amazing feedback, Tania James hired him to clean her gutters. The only reason Jess agreed was because he was sort of friends with Lola, and he had met Luka a couple times and he seemed like a nice guy.

The doorbell to the James house rang once, and Lola jumped off her bed to answer it, hoping it was Jess. And if it was him, he was two and a half minutes early.

"Hey." Lola smiled, opening the front door.

Jess smiled back before tossing her a CD. "Here."

Lola examined it and smirked, "The Shaggs?"

"Trust me"

"Fine. I never really thought of you as the punctual type." Lola said, letting him in to the front hallway.

"Yeah, well, it was this or continue apartment hunting with Luke." Jess said. He also just wanted to see Lola.

"You're moving?"

"I don't know. Luke flipped out last night and next thing I know, he's dragging me all over town banging on pipes and measuring square footage. It's crazy."

"A new place might be nice. More space, maybe you'll get your own room instead of having to sleep on a raft next to Luke." Lola joked.

Jess ignored her comment. "You change your hair?"

"What?"

"Your hair. It looks different." Jess smiled slightly, taking a strand in between his fingers.

"So, segue's aren't really your thing, huh?" Lola answered. She was trying to cover up the fact that she was very flustered. She had changed her hair yesterday, but she only cut off about an inch. Jude hadn't even noticed, but here Jess was, noticing right away.

"Is it different?" Jess pressed.

"I got it cut yesterday, why?" Lola asked anxiously, wondering if he didn't like it.

"Just looks different." Jess smirked.

"Bad different?"

"No, good different. Really good." Jess smiled at the girl, and she blushed. Lola lead Jess to her dining room, where Tania was sitting, drinking her tea. After the introductions that Jess and Tania shared, it was too awkward for Lola's liking.

"You can sit, you know." Lola told Jess, gesturing to a chair next to the old wooden dining room table.

"No thanks."

"So, Jess, what's new?" Tania asked, facing the boy. She didn't hate him, she just didn't want her daughter to be around him.

"Not much." Jess shrugged.

"Uh, mom, Jess and Luke are looking for an apartment." Lola smiled.

"Oh, fun! Have you guys seen anything good yet?" Tania asked.
