"Oh, it was a fine collection, believe me." Lane told Rory, Sage, and Lola about the religious colleges that Mrs. Kim made Lane apply to.

"She made you apply to every one?" Rory asked, not finding it hard to beileve.

"And measured my head for a wimple." Lane nodded

"Man, I love mama Kim" Lola laughed, and Lane shot her a playful glare.

"Out of twenty-three schools, there wasn't one that you might want to go to?" Sage turned to Lane.

"It depends on what I'm looking for. Of course, all the great Seventh Day Adventist schools were represented, with their ban on dancing, gum chewing and bowling. Quaker College was a delightful surprise, with its special appeal to Richard Nixon, who's dead but still deeply involved in campus recruiting. Oh, and the piece de resistance! She found an Amish school in Nicaragua. Nicaragua!" Lane sighed. "A big shout out to Mama Kim on that one!"

"Look, Mama Kim always starts out super serious on everything but then lightens with time." Rory resasurred Lane.

"But I don't have time. Schools that I like will fill up and my band, my beloved band, will find another drummer, and if it's a girl I'm gonna be twice as mad." Lane reminded the girls.

"Look, Lane, just try to calm down." Sage told Lane, who shook her head.

"No, calm is for losers. I've spent my whole life compromising and being the good little girl and not doing what I want. Or doing what I want and hiding it and feeling guilty for doing it, and I'm sick of it. I'm sick of it. I mean, I even lost my first boyfriend because of all this." Land ranted as the four teens walked in the town square.

"What boyfriend?"

"You had a boyfriend?" Lola asked, trying to remember when or even who that was.

"Henry." Lane looked at the three girls like they were stupid.

Sage nodded. "Oh, right, Henry."

"See, that's how pathetic my life is. I'm calling a boyfriend a guy that I never even went out on a date with, and that my own best friend doesn't even remember, which is not your fault because there's nothing to remember." Lane complained.

"Okay, so besides power walking, what are you gonna do about it?" Rory asked, out of breath from trying to keep up with Lane.

"Take a stand!" Lane yelled.

"What kind of stand?" Lol asked her, but Lane ignored the blonde girl.

"Lane." Sage said as Lane stormed into the beauty supply store.

"Follow my anger."

"What are you doing?" Sage sighed, following the girls into the shop.

"Choosing a color." Lame shrugged and Lola grinned. She always knew Lane was badass.
