ANOTHER DAY, ANOTHER SHIFT. Lola had picked up an extra shift on a Thursday morning, hoping to make some extra cash. And since Luke was hosting a wake for his late uncle, he was stressed. And everyone knows that a stressed Luke Danes means a swamped Luke's Diner. The Gilmores had offered to help out, which was extremely helpful but Jess was still no where to be found, probably off in a corner listing to Queen or reading.

"But, but mine's a quarter caf." Kirk explained to Lola as she filled up his coffee mug.

"What the hell does that mean?" Lola asked impatiently.

"Three-fourths decaf, one-fourth caffeinated." Kirk nodded.

Lola rolled her eyes. "I four-fourths don't care." She snapped, and walked back to the counter. "Hey Luke, where's Jess?" She asked as she made more coffee.

Luke shrugged, "I don't know. He's probably upstairs."

"Really? Excuse me." Lola pushed her way upstairs where she could hear music blasting. "Jess, open up! I know you're in there." She yelled, pounding on the apartment door.

"My, aren't we bright eyed and bushy tailed." Jess opened the door, smirking.

"Luke needs you downstairs."

"Why?" Jess sighed.

"Because he's on the phone with someone and Caesar's off today so I'm the only one working and the place is packed and he needs help." Lola explained.

"I'll be down in a minute."

Lola shook her head. "No, now."

"I'm in the middle of something."

"Just assume that Jeannie's gonna get Major Healey out of whatever scrape he's in." Lola gestured to the TV.

"Gee, thanks for spoiling it for me." Jess scoffed as Lola pushed him downstairs.

"Well, you're very graceful." Lorelai commented as Jess basically fell down the stairs.

"She pushed me." Jess accused.

"Sue me." Lola rolled her eyes.

"I could've broken my neck."

"As long as it's not your arm. We need your arm." Lola handed him a coffee pot and pushed him in the direction of the customers.

"Despot." Jess muttered.

"Young man, where's the young lady we've heard so much about who's using those delightful old diner phrases to place people's orders? It sounds so fun. Could you point her out for us?" A diner customer asked Jess after he filled her coffee mug.

"No." Jess said. He turned to Lola. "That's everyone. I'll be upstairs."

"Thanks for doing the very least you could possibly do." Lola fake smiled.

"You're welcome." Jess yelled back from the staircase.

When Lola stepped into the diner for her afternoon shift, she was shocked. About eighty people were inside the small

"Hi." Lorelai greeted Lola and Rory as her and Luke stepped into the diner.

"What's going on?" Luke asked, looking

"It's kind of like a wake."

"A wake?"

"For Louie?"

"I thought you set it up"

"I didn't set it up."

"Well, it's going well, anyway. People brought a ton of food if you're hungry." Lola said before walking over to Jess. "Nice spread." She commented.

"People have too much free time in this town." Jess shook his head.

"You did a good thing." Lola smiled.

"What do you mean?"

"I thought Lorelai set this up. Turns out she didn't."

"So? Wasn't me."

"It wasn't?"

"Nah, no way. It wasn't me."

Lola nodded. "If you say so."

"Look, the crazy ballet teacher called and asked when Luke was getting back from the funeral, if I could unlock the door. I came down, I unlocked the door, then went back upstairs and back to sleep." Jess shrugged like it was no big deal.

"So you did do a little something."

"I unlocked the door." Jess sighed.

"So that people could come in here and put this together. Nice."

"Nice for them, not for me." Jess shook his head.

"You facilitated it, you made it happen, so I guess that means that you're officially apart of our town now." Lola smirked.

"Hey, wait a minute." Jess held up a finger for her to stop talking.

"Welcome."

"I am not part of this town." Jess scoffed, appalled that Lola would say such a thing.

"See you for some tree planting over at the Arbor Day Festival, buddy." Lola grinned.

"Yeah, well maybe I can knock over a liquor store while everyone else is planting those stupid trees."

"As long as it's a liquor store in town, neighbor." Lola patted Jess on the back as he groaned in frustration.
