"Jayy?"

I walked over to Dahvie. "Yeah, it's me. What are you doing here? And for the 'defense'?" I growled quietly.

"Look, it's not my fault."

"Not your fault? Look what you're doing!" I whisper-yelled.

"I-..." Dahvie sighed. "I can't say why."

"What do you mean you ca- Oh..." I said quietly as it finally hit me. This was Dahvie's job for Ronnie. "Does she have to win?"

"No," he mumbled. "But I have to obviously be trying my hardest, or else... Well, you know..."

"Yeah, I know. I'll try twice as hard."

"Please do."

"I will," I said back.

We went back to our sides of the court as more people started to sit down. It finally made sense, at least, why Dahvie couldn't say anything... 'And' why he'd felt so guilty.

"You poor guy," I whispered.

. . .

I ended up not even being useful that day. Dahvie and I both ended up being called back in two weeks, as the prosecution found a vital flaw in the defense's, well 'defense'. Plus their key witness never showed so they had to get that witness back or find a new one, as well as "actually check your facts" as the sassy judge said. After that, we would likely find out if Hunter would be back on Ronnie's accord or mine.

Then it would be my turn to testify. After the second delay, it was unlikely that there'd be another. That meant our parts in the process would probably be finished within a month, give or take a week or two, and the tour could, hopefully, begin.

Dahvie's POV

Two weeks felt like both a nanosecond and a year at the same time when you were waiting on a trial. That feeling was even more intense when you knew one friend living and another's life depended on the end of those two weeks going well.

But thankfully, all 'did' go well, at least as far as I could tell. The defense's case wasn't strong, even with those two weeks, but Ronnie seemed satisfied, if ignorant.

I got a moment to talk to her on the phone and she confirmed it for me.

Hunter was coming home.
