"So then, if you know this won't break us up...what did you want out of telling me this? And... what do we do now?"
Jayy sighed, relief evident on his face. "Now we don't pretend and lie and worry about this. Now I stop acting like a kid and start being an adult. I'm going to treat you like a human, one who's my best friend, and, in exchange, I'm asking you to stop feeling so guilty. You were so happy when you came home tonight and then you see me and it's gone 'cause you were afraid I was mad.
"I mean, not to say I helped, but I honestly didn't mean to make it worse. I know I've been an ass and I'm sorry. I'm really just hoping at this point that we can move past this, no matter what it means for us, okay? I love you too much and I have for too long to lose you completely, even if it means those three words never come out of my mouth again to keep you."
"J-Jayy... You don't realize how short of a time this has been do you?"
He sighed. "Short enough that I remember it all, crystal clear; long enough that those memories killed me when I thought you were gone."
I nodded. "Regardless, I won't say never, but those words certainly can't come out any time soon. Jason deserves a good fair shot at this, and I think I do too."
Jayy nodded. "I can certainly respect that Hunter, if nothing else."
"Thank you. So...friends then, I guess."
He nodded. "I'm drinking tonight off, just so you know. Personally, I'm unfazed by the thought of you drinking. Feel free to join me."
"I'll pass." I smiled. "But I'll see ya when you're hungover and everyone else is whole new demonic levels of too loud, kay?" I said with a laugh.
Jayy laughed too. "Fond memories." He smirked. "See ya later."
"Bye." I waved, my carefree smile finally back. It felt good, and I was happy to say it felt like this peak wasn't going to valley anytime soon.
Oh, never tempt the fates.

Sorry a chapter today didn't really happen, Christmas excitement in both Mom and Dad's houses today. I bonded a little with my brother, which is amazingly rare and put me in a great mood. But now I'm alone with my thoughts so I fear that won't last. So, I wrote out this nicer chapter. It was short and maybe a little filler-suspense-maker-y, but it also resolved a fairly important conflict, wouldn't you say?
For those of you who aren't in love with "the new J", all I can say is don't fret. "Oh, never tempt the fates" as Hunter said... Or your evil God of an author.
I believe I'll start writing the next chapter now, though most of it is already written, at least the main point of the next chapter. It almost was this chapter, but instead I thought I'd have Jayy and Hunter solve their problems. False sense of security and all that.
Either way, so long as it gets finished tonight as planned, I WILL post this one tomorrow, nice and early in the day at least in my time zone, so hopefully in yours you can see it the day I post it.
