Natalie Lavoie sat on the vintage leather couch in her living room with her parents. She always had a rocky relationship with them, because they always expected a lot from her. She was their only daughter and they wanted her to look and act perfect. Natalie once dreamed of getting married but as she grew up she became more independent and didn't need a man, but she knew she would have to get married, unless she wanted her parents to disown her.
Her father was sitting on the second couch in the living room and was reading a newspaper with his reading glasses on the tip of his nose. "So, I had tea with Rose Kennedy today..." her mother said. "That's nice." Natalie answered. "You know, she mentioned her son, Jack is single." her mother started. "Ahh, you mean the Senator?" Natalie said uninterested in the conversation. "Yes, the Senator..." her mother replied. "Didn't he recently give a speech with his shirt untucked and hair all scruffy?" Natalie asked sarcastically. Her father looked up from his newspaper and chuckled. "Well Jack can be a little, disorganized sometimes but he really is a great boy." she said. "Boy? Mother he is a 30 year old man." Natalie answered.
"I know, but I still see him as the little boy who would run around Hyannis Port without a care in the world." her mother said. "Right. Well, I'm going to go work on my newspaper column." Natalie said. "Wait! So, will you agree to have dinner with him?" her mother asked. "What!? Why would I have dinner with him?" Natalie asked. "Because it would make your mother very happy. And he already agreed to it." her mother said. Natalie was angry at this set up. She didn't need her mother to find her a man but still she said, "Okay, mother. When is the dinner?". "Wonderful! He will be here tomorrow at 7." she replied. Natalie went back to her room.
Before she landed her job at the The Boston Gazette, she lived in a New York City apartment, but ever since her new job, she moved back to her parents' home in Boston. She was one of the best writers at the Gazette and she really enjoyed writing. She wasn't thrilled with the fact that she was back living with her parents, but it was more convenient with her job and all. Natalie finished writing her column and laid on the window seat in her room, reading a book. She watched the rain fall down the window. Soon, she felt her eyes getting heavy.
"Natalie! Wake up!" her brother Philip yelled. "What happened?" Natalie asked feeling the hot sun blinding her eyes. "You must've fallen asleep... yesterday!" he replied. "Ugh!! What time is it?" she asked. "Eleven." he answered. "Oh, good..." she answered. "Mother wants you to come down for lunch." Philip says. "Okay, just let me clean myself up." she replies. "Alright, but don't keep her waiting too long." he answered. Natalie got ready and went downstairs.
