"So I heard you like to sail?" Natalie said. "Yes. I love the sea. It's like my second home." he said. "I love it too. It really makes you feel free." she replied. "It does at that." he said. They sat there looking at the stars for a few minutes until Jack said, "So tell me about yourself.". "What do you want to know?" Natalie replied and laughed. "I don't know, are you spontaneous or more calm or things like that..." he said. "Well, I would say I'm not much of a rebel. Probably because of my mother..." she replied.
"Hmm. My mother has always been strict as well but that hasn't stopped me from doing what I wanted. I even got kicked out of school a couple of times." he said. "Jeez! You know I wouldn't have taken you for a troublemaker..." Natalie said. "Why? Because I work in government?" he asked and laughed. "Mostly that, but you seem... calm." Natalie said. "Hmm, I'm not sure if that's a compliment or not, but I'll take it as one." he replied. "You know, I've always wanted to do something spontaneous... something crazy." Natalie said. "Then marry me." Jack replied.
"What?" Natalie said feeling her stomach drop. "Marry me." Jack repeated. "I'm sorry, are you that drunk?" she asked half-jokingly. "I'm serious." he said and laughed. "Jack I barely know you. Why would I marry you?" she said. "First off, you said you wanted to do something spontaneous, well marrying a stranger is as spontaneous as it gets. Second off, our mothers would have a ball if we got married. And since you only want to get married to please your parents, this would work out great for all of us." he explained and smirked. "But, we're not in love." Natalie said. "Eh, love is overrated." he replied. "You're crazy." Natalie said and stood up. "Oh come on!! It'll be fun." he said and laughed. "I'm going inside now." she said and marched off slightly angry and his dumb proposal.
"Natalie!!" he exclaimed. Natalie walked back into the restaurant and went straight to the bar. Jack followed her but she ignored him. She sat back down at their table but everyone was dancing so she and Jack were the only ones at it. "Natalie, I was serious back there. I think we should get married." he said. "Why? I don't understand why you want to get married." Natalie replied, starting to feel faint. "Why not? Think about it, it would be a little crazy, a little fun, and your mother would finally stop nagging you about getting married." he said. "But we just met and we're not in love." Natalie replied. "So? Marriage isn't just about love it's about appearance. Trust me, I'm not in a rush to get married, but my mother thinks otherwise." Jack replied. "So it would basically be a fake wedding?" Natalie asked. "Not exactly. I mean, it would, but not to the world, except for people close to us maybe." he said. "You know what, fine! Now go get me another drink." Natalie said and crossed her arms. "You got it, kid." Jack replied. Natalie rolled her eyes and dismissed what he just called her, considering they were the same age. She watched him walk away and felt a twist in her stomach. She was getting married.
