13. My own sister ditches me. I fell so loved.

She turned away from me, opened the door, peered out cautiously, glanced back at me with a sad expression and then ran out. I almost laughed hysterically feeling bitter. I thought about what I had been thinking last night. So much for being in this together.

Suddenly it dawned upon me. Mavis was Violet's minion. She didn't care for us. What if that was just what she had wanted me to think all along? What if all of this was planned and every move was being mapped out by the puppeteer. A trap. I forgave Ash for what she had done.

Right now she was possibly going to be in big trouble and I had to save her. I raced out of our door in time to see a door closing on the other side of the corridor of doors. I ran into the room to find myself facing Mavis, who smiled wickedly at me. So much for deciding to stay to save this scum.

There was no sign of Ash and before I could punch Mavis in the face and run I heard a sound I had been growing used to. Mock clapping. Violet came strutting in still with the ridiculous evil smile plastered across her face.

"It worked again." She high fived Mavis and suddenly I couldn't take it anymore. I was so pissed off. Not even at Violet. Mainly at Mavis for not being who I thought she would be. And at myself for being so blinded by hope.

I jumped on Mavis and almost pulled her eyes off. She gave a high pitched scream and when I looked down it was my turn to scream. Her face was peeling off. Like a mask. I pulled it off and underneath.......Ash?! I stepped backwards glancing around totally freaked out. Wasn't there anyone in this rotten hell whom I could trust?

Ash smirked at me. "I always knew you were weak." She gestured for me to come at her. "Prove me wrong."

I ran towards the door but it was locked. That was when I realized Violet had run away. So great. Now I was alone stuck with a monster who was apparently my sister. I looked down and realized that she didn't have a tattoo on her foot and I sighed with relief.

"You aren't Ash."

She smiled again with a look of pure evil.

"Shall I show you who I really am? My true form?"

"Do I have a choice?"

She laughed. "Smart boy. No wonder I loved you in my actual form."

Slowly her young beautiful face turned old and haggard. Her slim body became fatter and her skin became wrinkled and dark. I was staring at the wise face of Arthur.

"It can't be you." I said sounding more confident than I felt. "Arthur isn't a monster."

She laughed. Even her laugh sounded old. "So naive. Always ready to trust. That's your fatal flaw my boy."

I suddenly had an idea. "Maybe that is my fatal flaw but I know yours too. If you are actually Arthur tell me the most important sentence you said in the end which brought us back to when we first met after my parents' death."

She faltered but only for a moment. "If you master your powers we will meet again?"

"Wrong." I said thankfully but in my head, 'how does she know that?'

I laughed in her face.

"You forgot p.s. I'm sorry I stole your burger. You, my dear monster are a terrible fake." She screamed in rage and her body shrunk back to her original form. Mavis.

"What are you?"

She smiled slightly. "I'm a shape shifter. Figura subcinctus. Latin. Though its literal meaning is shape shift. There is no exact word for shifter."

"Wow" I said unable to stop myself. Hey, it was pretty freaking cool. "So the queen is using you for her own things huh?"

She shrugged. "I owe her a debt. My life is entwined with hers."

I stared at her in surprise. "So if she dies?"

She hung her head. "I will lose my powers and turned into the most disgusting creature god has ever created. A completely ordinary human being."

I stuck my tongue out at her.

"I honestly don't even know what normal means anymore."
