38. I'm too young to die. Ok maybe not but that doesn't mean I want to.

"Dad." Mavis said. "Press the button."

Ru Twilight looked confused. "What button?"

Mavis glared at him. "Your watch button."

He smiled with happiness. "I have a watch?" Mavis face palmed while Violet hugged Ash. "You took away his memory away. I'm so proud of you."

Ash smiled nervously. "I didn't know I could."

Mavis sneered. "Alex is going to drown in oil. The next best thing. Possibly even the best thing. Slow death." She smiled at the looks of horror that showed on Ash's and Violet's face.

"Oh don't worry." She said with a laugh. "I'll press the button to make his death a whole lot quicker. Dad hand me the watch."

Ru Twilight held onto his watch stubbornly. "It's mine. You won't get it you big bully." Mavis sighed in exasperation. Violet locked her eyes into Ash's, a decision forming in her mind. She took Ash's hand. "Don't let her get the watch." She pleaded.

Ash's eyes widened. "What are you going to do?" Violet didn't reply. She swung open the same trapdoor Alex ( that's me) had fallen through and jumped in.

As for me, things were not going that well. The oil was rising and every time my head went under it felt like pure torture. My mind was at rest though. I felt peace within me. There was nothing I could do. This was going to be a slow death. I was unable to go through the trapdoor because the flow of the petroleum was too strong.

I shook myself snapping out of it. I should be ashamed of myself, giving up hope like some immature three year old. My head knocked onto something and I realized that the oil level had risen so much I was close to the pipe.

If I could just grab hold of it..........I stretched out but then sank down like a stone. I choked and tasted blood. I was crying. Ugly crying. Call me sissy. I was scared out of my mind.

Suddenly something grabbed me and I almost died of shock. I struggled to see through the oil. Someone was hanging onto the edge of the pipe. Violet?

"What are you...?" my head went under and I came up gasping and spitting out oil. "Alex." She screamed grunting with the pain of hanging on.

"Grab my hand." I didn't want to give her further agony but I figured this could be my only chance to live. I grabbed her hand and she pulled me and both of us hung on to the inside of the pipe, our bodies dangling over the edge.

Ash wasn't having the greatest of times. She had tripped up Mavis but Mavis had done a leg sweep tripping Ash up and had come up in a crouch. She dragged Ash up by the scruff of her neck and banged her head against a wall. Not hard enough for her to blackout but more than hard enough to leave a bruise.

"Give my dad his memory back and I'll let you live."

Tears dripped down Ash's face. She felt utter failure. Violet and Alex were probably dying and she hadn't jumped into the pipe to save her own brother. But if by chance they were alive she had to buy them some time.

"You would let me l-l-live?" She allowed herself to stammer and made her expression hopeful. Mavis smiled and loosened her grip. That was a mistake. "Give my dad his powers."

Ash kicked her in the gut and somersaulted over her. She stared in surprise. "How did I just do that?" Ash turned to Mavis and punched her hard. "I hope you take no for an answer."

Mavis's lip was bleeding but she managed to crack a smile. "Let's have it your way."

She tackled her father down and pressed the watch button herself.

Ash screamed.

Violet and I sensed trouble before it came. "Uh oh." Said Violet and I nodded grimly. "Fire." She locked her eyes into mine. "Alex this is going to sound stupid but I want you to let go."

My voice cracked. "What do you mean?" she trembled. "Swim down to the trapdoor where the oil is coming from." I shut her lips with my index finger. "But the fire...." She playfully bit my finger. "That's right geniass. I can stop it."

I shook my head. "Too dangerous. Besides if you make time slow down then I'll get paused too."

She laughed lightly. "You talk too much. Chill. I'm coming with you." I sighed with exasperation and well.......um......relief. "You could've mentioned." She scowled. "We are wasting time. JUMP."

It was dumb to listen to her but taking a deep breath I let go. I swam for all I was worth (which admittedly wasn't much) and as I struggled against the current........FIRE.

I turned to see Violet shimmered in purple and she pulled me close to her and I almost opened my mouth in shock to swallow more oil.

The fire was so close and suddenly right before my eyes it stopped moving. Just before it reached us. I couldn't move a muscle either. Even the flow of oil had stopped. No current.

Violet held onto me and slowly dragged my unmoving body through the trapdoor and somehow managed to pull it shut behind her. The purple shimmers stopped and I could move again. I took a deep breath and sighed gratefully. Alive.

We were at the back of the palace. In the oil well that provided the palace with fuel for practically everything. I kicked the metal shaft I had been in with utmost defiance. I turned to see Violet rolling her eyes at my actions and pointing at a ladder than ran along the well wall.

I lifted her up onto my shoulders and boosted her up and she in turn pulled me up. We began the climb and finally made it to the top. I jumped over her and made it out first. Then I gave her my hand and lifted her down. The perfect gentleman. Except the effect was spoilt because we were both drenched in oil.
