42.             Are we never going to get the well deserved nap?

"Give me my watch back" he said like the spoilt rat he was, having a tantrum. Ash shook her head.

"Never."

Violet laughed. "Say the magic word."

I almost laughed aloud. This was ridiculous. "Oh please."

Violet and Ash shushed me. "Don't tell him the answer." I face palmed. Ru Twilight smiled proudly. "Please." He said. We laughed and he glared at us.

Ash dangled a watch in front of his eyes. "You didn't think I was serious."

Ru Twilight suddenly grabbed the watch suddenly. "Ash." I said in exasperation. She winked at me. Wait, why would she do that. I realized thankfully that her watch was missing. She had switched it.

Ru Twilight's guard was down so this was where Ash attacked. She stepped in front of us. "So long sucker." She screamed and clicked a button. Violet screamed and hung onto me like a koala bear hanging onto a bamboo as a tile disappeared.

"Sorry wrong button." Said Ash turning slightly pink. "Let me start over. So long suck....." she faltered as Ru Twilight jumped onto the next tile. I grabbed the watch from her. "Guys get onto my tile."

They squeezed onto my tile and we all started pressing the buttons on the watch. We were jumping onto tiles as well so suddenly it seemed like a lose – lose situation. Ash and Violet kept screaming "die freak" at odd intervals and I actually felt sorry for the guy.

Let's not tell everyone that I'm supporting a criminal. Sorry if that ruins your sense of right and wrong but unlike you people I actually have a heart.

Finally it ended with all of us on one tile and Ru on one tile. The good news is one more button and bye, bye Ru Twilight. The bad news is we had lost count and none of us had any idea what the button was.

Ru Twilight was laughing. "Foolish children. Just hand me the watch."

"No." I snarled making Ash and Violet almost fall off the tile in fright. Ok. I made the worst decision anyone would ever make. I decided to leave out fates in the hands of destiny. Allowing it to choose which one of us mattered the most.

"Sorry guys." I said and sighed. "The party's finally over."

I dropped the watch through one of the trapdoors praying it would and on Ru Twilight's tile button and not ours. Ash shook me.

"Why the freaking hell would you do that?"

I took a breath. "Please don't kill me."

"How could you hang our lives up in mid air like that?" Violet said her eyes flashing.

Ru Twilight just looked drop dead horrified. I wish he would just drop dead. That would just solve this whole damn problem in the first place. "Alex." Ash said snapping me out of my thoughts. "What if both buttons click at the same time? Or what if no button gets clicked at all?"

I scratched my scalp. "I did not think of that one."

The girls and Ru Twilight face palmed in perfect synchronization. Aw man don't tell me he's against me too. Suddenly Ru Twilight's tile fell open and he fell down.

I think I was the only one who waved because Violet and Ash were too awestruck to believe that I had actually pulled it off.

"You killed him." Violet said looking like she wasn't sure whether to look incredibly horrified or seriously happy. I swatted her arm. "No I probs just deposited him in some basement. Or the oil well. Whatever comes first."

"That's great." Ash said encouragingly. "Can you get the tiles back now?"

I laughed nervously. "The good news is the watch saved us. The bad news is the watch is no longer with us."

Ash looked like she was stopping herself from screaming with immense difficulty. "Please don't tell me we are going to be stuck in a single tile together, forever."

I gulped and shook my head. "Ok Ash, we aren't gonna be stuck on a single tile together forever."

Violet laughed. "Geez kids, I'll save you."

"Ha ha" I said grumpily. "How do you plan to do that?" She pinched my cheek annoyingly.

"One of my powers is creation, slogboy." I smirked. "That is so not going to be my new nick name."

Violet laughed. "Watch and learn."

She clasped her hands together and closed her eyes giving the impression that she was praying. Suddenly a purple tiled floor started forming and finally it was complete. Violet shuddered and suddenly it was all over.

We high fived together and got onto separate tiles. "Proud of you queen V." she scowled at me. "Please do not call me that." I stuck my tongue out at her. "You call me slogboy, I call you queen V. sounds pretty fair to me."

She smiled and shrugged. "Ok then, slogboy."

Ash made us all join into a group hug. I awkwardly patted the girls on their backs. When they let me breathe, I realized something.

"Wow guys after all that, this is finally over."

Violet looked at me making her expression become an exaggerated look of pity. "Slogan grow up. You're old enough to know that this is just the beginning."

I shivered. "Please don't tell me this'll happen again."

Ash suddenly jumped up and down. "Yo, we have super powers. We are heroes."

"And villain." Violet added. I gave her a push. "Sadly, you are on the good side now. With us."

She pretended to look disappointed. "Woohoo?"

I looked around. "We aren't going to have any more big things like this right?"

Ash laughed. "If by that you mean evil soul dudes magically appearing and evil queens and shape shifters turning good and my own brother having romantic thoughts about one of the bad villains who is now a good villain because she's not bad anymore and ow."

"Shut up." Me and Violet said at the same time and blushed. Ash yawned. "Break it up guys. I'm just summarizing what happened. I pulled her hair like all good big brothers should do.

"Well, leave us out of it."

"I wanna go home." Violet said.

I smirked. "You are in your home. My queen."

She smacked me. "Take me to your house."

Ash scowled. "Uh lady, queen or no queen you ain't allowed to order us around." She sniggered. "I am older than you." I stepped in. "But I'm the oldest. I say let's call it a day and go home. Violet, you are a queen. The queen. Stay here."

"Alex!" she yelled and I put my hands up in a mock gesture of surrender.

"Geez, if it means so much to you, come with us. But seriously guys, let's just go home."

Walking back through the streets waving at the people who we apparently saved and smiling at their expressions of confusion felt good. I wasn't sad. I just felt slightly empty. We had sacrificed so much. Arthur. Mavis. People we cared about. People who had sacrificed themselves for our own success and survival. It hurt because there were probably way better solutions than the way we handled and solved the problem. Maybe they didn't need to die to prevent what happened. It was unnecessary. But I was learning and thanks to every one of those actual heroes, I'd know enough to save the world without sacrificing it. Maybe seeing the world for what it was, was a good thing? I had to look to the future. And I think you should too.
