28. We lose to more skeletons. Possibly annoyed because they weren't invited to the wedding.

Ash finally woke up. She sat up groggily and saw me sitting up. "How's your foot?" I looked at her surprised.

"How did you know?" she smiled stupidly. "I saw it before sleeping."

I rolled my eyes. "What a night mare."

She laughed at the pun and then sobered down. "No, seriously how is it?"

I turned to Violet and winked. "The queen fixed me up." She smiled shyly at Ash. "I'm really sorry for everything I did."

Ash shrugged. "I guess you really are on our side then......." I stared at the floor and finished her sentence.

"It's just every time one of you turn your back, you'll just betray us and leave us to die. How the hell can we trust you after what Mavis did to us?" I blinked back tears that had suddenly sprung for no reason.

She bit her lip. "There's only a certain amount of times a person can apologize. I'm sorry for whatever I did to both of you. I truly am. And if I can't be taken to your team or whatever this is, I understand. But please don't compare me with Mavis. That bloody scum."

Tears were dripping down her cheek again and after a rather hurried consideration I took her hand and tried for an awkward smile.

"You are in."

"What?!" Ash and Violet both said at the same time. Violet's tone was surprised and filled with hope. Ash sounded mildly annoyed that I hadn't conferred with her before making the decision.

I shrugged and tried to choose my words carefully.

"It has to be thus." Strike one. Ash rolled her eyes. "You sound like a crappy Shakespeare." I tried again. "Hi guys, my name is Alex. I'm......." "Get to the point." Violet said interrupting me.

I decided to quit joking around. "Arthur told me that I should learn from my mistakes. So when Mavis betrayed me I thought she was hinting that you would betray me too. But then she said accidents happened for a reason. That made me dig a little deeper. Come on I fell down a hill, tripping over a skateboard and found you and tumbled into a heap. How is that not accidental?"

She smiled at me with understandment and certainty and then tensed looking rather awkward and uncomfortable.

"You can let go of my hand now."

I blushed slightly and let go. Thank god my face was streaked with dirt. Ash asked the most pressing question that had been bothering her all this time.

"Wait, you fell in Twilight too?" She looked so joyful I couldn't help laughing.

"Glad to see that my pain gives you pleasure."

"Much pleasure." She said licking her lips cruelly and then she laughed at her own words. "Alex, cut to the chase though. We are stuck underground. What's our plan of seeing day light again?"

I noticed Violet hunching her shoulders her eyes darting around anxiously.

"What do you know about underground?" Ash snapped at her.

She looked at Ash coldly. "Look around. This isn't underground."

I felt a sense of dread when she said that and I focused my eyes on the area. It wasn't much different from underground. But it was made with some black material. I realized that the floor definitely wasn't earth. It was more like............marble? Black marble. And despite being closed up there was an eerie white light. How had I not noticed that before?

"So where are we?" I asked Ash echoing my words. Violet shuddered. "My guess. Underworld."

I gulped. "Seriously?" She shrugged and tried for a joke.

"Hey if we all die at least our souls won't have far to go."

No one laughed.

Ash wasn't even the slightest bit amused. She was scared.

"Um guys. I don't know about you'll but are you'll seeing what I'm seeing?" I didn't want to see what she was seeing if it was that scary. Against my better judgment I turned around.

Skeletons were advancing us holding their own ribs. Again.
