NOT EDITED
When the end of the day came I was physically and emotionally exhausted. All I wanted to do is go home and rest. Every period someone would question about how Derek and I are now dating. Some were good and other comments were just…nasty. Girls who were jealous would say how he’s using me for his own gain, and how I’m nothing to him. All those girls said he would rather sleep with them then be connected to my arm.
I walked sluggishly to my locker when seventh period ended. Derek and I talked about our English project and nothing else. I could tell he knew something was up with me. I let out a heavy sigh before I felt Derek’s fingers slip through mine. I looked down and smiled at our enjoined hands. Even though it’s only been a short while since Derek and I have become close, I can officially say he’s my rock. “What’s wrong?” he asked when he leaned down and whispered in my ear.
I let go of with hand so I was able to open my locker. I popped it open and put all my books away. The good thing about being a senior is that you barely get any homework. I shut my locker and went to leave but got stopped by Derek. He reached out and wrapped both his arms around my waist. I sighed again, “What?”
Derek raised an eyebrow, “Why are you so snappy? What happened?”
“Nothing,” I mumble. “I’m just tired and want to go home.”
“What’s wrong?” he asked more sternly.
“Nothing,” I answer more forcefully. I pushed out of his arms and started walking toward the front doors. Derek quickly caught up with me, but didn’t try to question me again. Unfortunately, Jackie was standing right outside the doors.
“Hey Derek,” she said seductively as she swirls a strand of hair in between her fingers. “Want to hang out tonight?”
I went to look at her and saw she was smiling triumphantly at me. She was doing this to get under my skin—and it was working. “No,” he answered coolly.
Jackie bit her lip and shook her head, “Come on Derek, you know you want to. Just like we did a few nights ago.”
My face paled and my body went frigid. “Shut up Jackie,” Derek said. “Stop feeding lies to people.”
Derek led us away from Jackie, but I can’t get her words out of my mind. I understand a few days ago Derek and I weren’t a couple, but that doesn’t mean it’s right either. Derek walked me to my car and as I went to get in he stopped me. “What?” I asked.
He used his body to pin me to my car. Derek wrapped his arms around my waist as he nuzzled my neck. “She wasn’t telling the truth. She’s just jealous that she never got a piece of me.”
I raised an eyebrow in confusion, “What do you mean? I thought, pardon my language, fuck buddies.”
Derek leaned away with a frown plastered on his lips, “No, we aren’t. I made out with her once, that’s it.”
