The sunrise rose over the water in a slow moving trace. A sunset and a sunrise is so stunning to witness. The wind blew softly against my bare legs, causing goose bumps to attack my skin. The smell of the water and the outdoors is refreshing and I could so get used to it.

Four years ago I graduated high school with my best friends. Who would’ve thought we would still be that close? Derek and I went to the same college and no, that was not planned. Rebecca and Landon went to different schools but was only a half an hour away from each other so it worked out. Melanie and Riley broke up during the last few weeks left of senior year of high school. However on prom night they rekindled their romance. Even though Melanie’s mom doesn’t favor Riley she can understand he makes her daughter happy.

My mom and Derek’s mom have become close friends after my father’s death. Derek’s mom took us under her wing and showed us everything will work out and it did. I miss my dad every day, but I will forever be thankful of his choice.

“Annabelle!” Melanie exclaimed, hugging me from behind. “They’re coming,” she squeaked.

          “Who?”

Before I could my answer two arms wrapped around my waist and threw me into the water. The freezing water. When I resurfaced I saw Melanie did too. “Riley I’m going to kill you,” she warned, glaring up at Riley who had a taunting smirk on his face.

“Cannonball!” Landon exclaimed, rushing up the pier in his very tight fitting underwear. He jumped right in between Melanie and I, causing water to splash up into our faces.

“Derek,” I said, addressing him for the first time since he rudely threw me into the lake. “Are you coming in?”

He smiled, “I don’t think so babe.”

“Come on Derek don’t be a chicken,” Landon butted in. “A nice morning swim is quite refreshing. Isn’t Annabelle?” He asked as he wrapped his arms around my waist.

I tried getting away from him but there was no escaping Landon. “Let go of me! Your little friend is touching me!”

Landon gasped, “There is nothing little about it!”

“I can vouch differently,” Rebecca added, sitting beside Riley and Derek.

After much begging on our part they dry party joined us in the water. Derek slowly swam up to me, wrapping his arms around my waist. I wrapped my legs around his midriff before wrapping my arms around his neck.

“This is nice,” I sighed. “Who would’ve thought I would be dating the bad boy Derek Holt?”

Derek smiled, “I did. Or hoped.”

I played with the hair at the nape of his neck. “Well you got your wish,” I said before going in to kiss him.

When I went to pull away Derek grabbed the back of my neck to hold me in place. Our lips moved slowly before becoming more urgent. I ran my hands through his wet hair, tightening my legs around his waist. I felt Derek’s little friend coming alive and I smiled into the kiss.

“Shut up,” Derek mumbled, knowing what I just discovered.

“I love you so much,” I said when we pulled away.

“Remember what I said to you last year?” he asked, making me think.

          I shook my head, “No.”

He cupped my cheek, “I said after college we should take our relationship to the next level. And since you’re a traditionalist, I was wondering if you’d want to get married before moving in together.”

I smiled, “You’d really want to get married?”

He tightened his grip, hugging me closer to him. “Yeah, of course. I love you so much Anna. We can get engaged and wait until we have settled down from college to get married.”

“I like that idea,” I said before kissing him again.

“How’s it going bitch?” Rebecca asked, swimming to us with Landon close behind her.

          I smiled, “We’re getting engaged.”

Rebecca screamed in excitement as did Landon. “My best friend is getting married!”

          “Mine is too!” Landon added.

Rebecca shook her head at her boyfriend. “Am proud of you two. I told you you’d make it.”

I nodded, looking back at Derek’s handsome face. “Yeah, you did.”

“Well I’m hungry, want to go in now?” Riley asked, already getting out of the water with Melanie behind him.

Landon and Rebecca followed suit, but as I went to get out Derek held me back. “One last kiss?” he asked, pouting his lip.

I chuckled before pecking him on the mouth. “With thousands to follow.”
