a/n: i'm so sorry i know i am the WORST at updating, but thank you for 2k and 3k reads!!

I get onto the train for another year at Hogwarts. Even though I've been doing this every year since I was 11, things feel different. For starters, it's not my parents dropping me off at the platform, it's the Weasley's. Also, Harry's trial was just the other day, and even though Dumbledore was there to save his ass, I know everyone's still on edge.

I follow Fred onto the train, who follows George, who follows Ginny, who follows Harry, who follows Ron, who follows Hermione. Quite the bunch, eh?

Ron and Hermione were named prefects this year, so they have to sit in their own cabin. I heard Draco was named one too, so he'd have to sit with them, which is something quite interesting.

I haven't talked to Draco since we got off of the train last year... I've sent him owls, but to no avail. I finally took the hint and stopped sending him the letters, but I still wrote them. Kept them to myself, read them when I wanted to write more to stop myself from picking up the quill. I really didn't know what to say even, but so much was running through my head when it came to him.

Fred stops in front of me and I bump into him, causing my cheeks to flush. "Sorry," I smile as he turns around, tilting his head down to look at me.

"No worries, Miller. Say, you want to sit with us? Lee said he brought some new ideas for our shop," he smiles, waggling his eyebrows.

I smile bigger and look over his shoulder at Harry, who's been sulking since Ron was named prefect instead of him. "I'm gonna have to pass, Weasley. See you tonight?"

He nods and ducks into a cabin with George, smiling. I knew that ever since Harry had given the twins his winnings of the championship last year that they had been working tirelessly to get their shop up and running. Truth be told, the only thing stopping them at this point was school.

I spend the entirety of the ride in a cabin with Harry, Neville, and Luna, finding myself quite enjoying the time. Harry seems off though, and I can't help but feel distant from him.

I decide to give him some space at dinner, mostly talking to Hermione and Ginny. Things are uneventful and plain, though also comforting in the way that it's normal. That is, until, a note comes wizzing over my shoulder and landing on my plate. I glance over at Hermione and Ginny, who are talking with one another animately about something, so I unfold it gently.

meet me in astronomy tower tonight at 8.
i miss you

I feel my cheeks flame a bit and roll my eyes. Of course this letter was from Draco, and of course he was saying that he missed me after ignoring me. Classic fucking Malfoy.

Harry looks at me from across the table, and I feel my cheeks redden more. I felt like I had been caught doing something I know I shouldn't do. Truth be told, I know that I should ignore Draco and not meet him. But I also know that I will, because my curiosity is my greatest fault.

8:12 pm. astronomy tower.

I consider leaving. I consider staying. It's just 12 minutes after 8. But still, it's 12 minutes of my time that's been wasted once again by Draco Malfoy. I let out a scoff that echos off of the walls and roll my eyes, embarrassed. Of course he would do something like this, ask to meet up with me, then leave. Of course.

I reach down to pick up my bag that I'd set down when the room becomes cold, too cold. "Hello?" I ask, dropping the strap of my bag and looking around the room.

"You waited," he replies, his breath warm behind my ear. I turn around and point my wand at him, while he raises his arms in mock-surrender. "Watch it, Miller, or you'll hurt someone with that thing."

"When I hurt you, Malfoy, it will be completely intentional."

"Why the coldness?" he asks, frowning a little. He moves closer to me but I back further away, raising my wand.

"What is wrong with you?" I ask, not expecting any answer. "I mean, seriously? I thought that we got past all of this shit last year?"

"We did-"

"I wrote to you. All the time, over Summer, and you just ignored me."

His face pinches and he looks at me. "I was busy, okay, and-"

"Oh you were busy," I laugh, rolling my eyes. "That's nice."

"Lauren, I was, trust me-"

"Trust you?" I ask. "I know that I shouldn't have, but I was depending on you, after... Ced," I sigh on his name, my heart becoming heavy. "I was depending on you to make me... I don't know, feel again? Make me smile, make me laugh?"

"I can still do those things," he says, grabbing one of my arms gently and tracing his fingers down it. It causes goosebumps to spread on my skin, and I pull away gently.

"You can't, okay? You just can't."

"Why are you pulling away from me?" He ask, pulling a hand through his hair.

"You pulled away first."

"I told you I was busy-"

"I'm sorry, but that isn't an excuse!" I shout, near my breaking point.

"No, Lauren, you are not doing this," he says, sounding desperate.

"You can't tell me what to do, Malfoy. I'm not yours. I... I never was."

At that, I pick up my bag and head out the doors, wishing I had ignored his note.
