As the weather warms up, people's tastes also become stronger. Many street lights become covered in red lanterns, and supermarkets start to showcase all their red-colored goods.
Lisa had always thought that their Chinese ancestors were quite wise, decorating their houses fire-themed to combat the snow."Are we really just getting these?" Jungkook looked at their shopping cart with some apprehension.
In preparation for their visit to his in-laws, Jungkook pulled Lisa to a nearby supermarket to buy some New Year's gifts.
"Rest assured, my dad's only hobby is to smoke and drink."
After Lisa said this, Jungkook pointed at the items and sternly warned: "You're not allowed to learn from him."
Looking at the cart again, Jungkook commented: "Still, these products are too cheap, we should get two bottles of Maotai." Jungkook wasn't satisfied with the prices of the wines Lisa chose.
"No, no we have to buy just the one or else he'll stash the other bottle. The cigarettes shouldn't be too expensive either, though they do have to be imported. One time he went with my mother to the supermarket and secretly bought the same brand of cigarettes." Lisa knew his dad's nature.
"Wait, so...you chose imported cigarettes and alcohol to prevent your dad from secretly swapping them with newly bought packs?" Jungkook discovered Lisa's trick after some careful thought.
"Smart!" Lisa praised.
"What about aunt? Aren't we buying too little vitamins?" Jungkook pointed to the small number of bottles in the shopping cart.
"I also bought her some clothes already." Lisa replied.
"Should I buy something for her too? I heard that the elderly like gold. Should I go and buy a gold bracelet for aunt?" Jungkook remembered that there were a few jewelry stores on the first floor of the mall.
"You don't need to wonder, gold is something near and dear to my mother's heart." Lisa carelessly commented this as she thought back to an incident with her mother and a greedy aunt's gold bracelet. The aunt boasted that her gold bracelet was given to her by her daughter-in-law.
"Then should I go ahead and buy it?" Jungkook turned and directly pushed the cart into the direction of the nearest jewelry store.
"Why are you so eager, I haven't finished talking. Our custom is for the daughter-in-law to buy a gold bracelet for their in-law." Lisa pulled Jungkook to a stop.
"Ah? You have this custom? Then should I buy a gold necklace?" Jungkook suggested.
"If you're thinking about things like this, you might as well put all your thinking power to how you're going to get my parents to accept you." Lisa smiled. "Don't forget that I eloped. What's more, it's only been half a year and already the man I'm bringing home changed."
"But it wasn't your fault?" Jungkook asked.
"Yes, but the thing is, you're going back with me this year." Lisa continued, spreading her hands. "I was going to announce the break up this year then take you back next year."
"Then wouldn't I have to be hidden away for a year?" Jungkook didn't want that. "I would rather face your parents now and take the blame."
Lisa couldn't help but laugh. When she glanced at her watch, she realized that it was almost 9:00 p.m., so she turned to Jungkook and said: "I have to go to work."
"Go ahead." Jungkook knew that Lisa was going to record the New Year's show on top of tonight's broadcast, so she had to leave early.
Lisa went to her tiptoes to peck Jungkook's lips before leaving.
