A Different World (HUNTER X HUNTER)

CHASE X BEHIND X YOU

(Y/N) sat by the windows of the airship with her head resting on her hands as the interviews were taking place. The interviews Chairman Netero had requested with the remaining applicants. She stared at the view for a moment, thinking about the people she has met so far and how they seemed to make her happy. They were different than what she has been accustomed to for years, it felt familiar but forgotten. (Y/N) had hoped for it to stay like this.

"(Y/N), this shouldn't take too long"

The old but wise Netero assured (Y/N), who in response, nodded. Netero gave her a goofy smile and then looked at his clipboard,
"Alright, which applicants would you avoid in a fight, and why?"
"I'm fine with fighting anyone, in the end it'll be beneficial. If I pass or not"

(Y/N) answered Netero, but avoiding eye contact. She seemed bored and uninterested in picking and avoiding who to fight. Her eyes lifted to watch Netero's hands hold the pen as he wrote information on the clipboard,
"I assume that answer goes the same for my next question. If you aren't keeping an eye on a specific applicant."
"Yes, I'm not"

(Y/N) simply agreed as her eyes did not move away from his hands. He smiles and tells her,
"Well, that's all. You can run back and rest till we get to our final destination"

(Y/N) stood up and exited the room, but not before looking back at Netero, it was obvious that old man was planning something. Especially since it's the last phase.

The group of final applicants were taken to a building and later in a large empty room while Netero stood with a board next to him. He began to explain that the last phase were set up as a tournament setting. However, the winners of each round automatically solidifies their new title of Hunter. The loser moves to the next round, only one person has to loose. And the added rule of no killing, killing will result disqualification and the rest of the applicants become hunters. As Netero revealed the board, (Y/N) immediately looked for her number. And luck on her part, she was up against #301. She looked around the group and made eye contact with the blue haired weird moving man, who made a clicking sound as he titled his head in response,
"Can you explain how we were paired with our opponent?"

Killua suddenly asked and it removed (Y/N)'s attention. It was silence as Netero breathed in and screamed,
"NOOOOO!"

He shook his head violently as everyone was startled at the response.

The first round was going to begin, it was Gon and a ninja named Hanzo. (Y/N) watched how Hanzo moved, he was definitely someone not to be taken lightly. When the round had officially begun, Gon began to make a run for it, but he was too slow. Hanzo quickly caught up with little effort and he smacked the back of Gon's head harshly. (Y/N) cringed at the sight of Gon's face meeting the floor. Most of his round involved him getting beat down over and over. It took everything for his group of friends to hold themselves back. It was all until Hanzo broke Gon's arm that made that Leorio and Kurapika began trying to convince Gon to give up this round but something made Gon not give up. When Gon was brought to face death, with Hanzo pointing a shard weapon to his forehead, where he revealed his reason of not wanting to give,
"My father is a Hunter if I can't win this round on my own I don't think I can face him"

In return, Hanzo shed some light on who he was and even was willing to give up the round, but Gon refused that. This erupted an argument between the two that made the others laugh and clear the suspenseful atmosphere. In the end, Hanzo knocked Gon out and gave the win to Gon. As Gon was being taken away to recover, (Y/N) wanted to run after them to make sure his injuries were okay. She was reminded that her round was up next. (Y/N) had to admit she was nervous, her eyes didn't leave Gittarackur as the two walked towards the middle. (Y/N) avoided showing her worry and instead glared at the very tall man as she raised her arms up to get ready for defense when the round would start. The
referee began announcing,
"On your marks... get set-"

The referee was interrupted when Gittarakur put his hand up as a sign to stop. Everyone stared confused as Gittarakur leaned towards the referee, his waist making that annoying clicking sound, as he seemed to whisper something to referee. (Y/N) wanted to listen to the conversation but before she could the referee announced,
"301 removes themselves from the round, admitting defeat. The win goes to 406"

(Y/N) lowered her arms as she stared confused. She questioned Gittarakur,
"Why?"

Gittarakur gave no explanation as he turned and walked away. (Y/N) couldn't complain as she looked at everyone else, she ran towards Kurapika and Leorio to let them know she was going to check on Gon and wait till he wakes up. As she tried her best to exit quietly, Gittarakur watched her and looked back at Hisoka who's eyes were warning him. (Y/N) set her priorities and Hisoka was watching to make sure people like Gittarakur don't interfere.

When (Y/N) walked in she found Satotz, the man who led the first phase, sitting and reading next to a bed. The bed was accompanied by Gon who was still passed out with bandaids on his forehead and a bandaged arm. Satotz turned around to look at (Y/N) and motioned towards an empty chair next to him that (Y/N) didn't see,
"Care to sit down?"

Satotz offered and (Y/N) sat next to him and she got a good look on how Gon was doing. His face was relaxed and resting,
"You came after your round right?"

Satotz asked (Y/N) who nodded and commented,
"It was short"

Satotz took note of the frustration written all over (Y/N)'s face. Her eyes were still locked on Gon as she was thinking about all the nice things he's done. The way he's stuck and still stayed with her despite her obvious flaws was shocking. She leaned down to the bed, just to rest her head while she waited for Gon to wake up. After a while, a referee entered the room and whispered into Satotz ear to deliver some news, he nodded and thanked the man for informing him. (Y/N) sat up and asked,
"What happened?"

Satotz turned to face (Y/N) and said,
"Let's wait till Gon wakes up, it would concern you both"

(Y/N) didn't like that, she didn't like being kept in the dark about situations. She held her hands together, trying or assume what's happening.

It didn't take Gon much long before waking up, he was facing the window and the first thing he saw was the outside. Oh how it looked so pretty and it was the perfect weather to go out and have fun. He turned his head to look at his surroundings and immediately noticed (Y/N), who called out to him,
"Gon! Are you okay?"

She asked very serious and seemed very worried, she almost jumped out of her chair to make sure he is okay,
"I-I'm fine (Y/N)"

Gon answered nervously as he was still trying to process what has happened but was also taken back with (Y/N)'s sudden burst of energy. He asked (Y/N),
"Where is everyone"
"Ah crap sorry. After your round, mine was next and ended pretty quick so I made my way here immediately"

(Y/N) told her perspective as she sat down, finally relaxing. Now it was Gon's turn for the burst of energy,
"So you passed!? Congratulations! Now we can both become Hunters and-"
"Ahem"

Satotz interrupted Gons small rambling and reminded (Y/N) that there was a matter at hand,
"Oh right... Mr. Satotz has something to tell us"

(Y/N) told Gon who said a small 'oh' to express his understanding. Satotz put down his book and announced,
"Killua has been disqualified from the Hunter Exam"
