CHAPTER 27
--------------------------------------
I DID ANOTHER IN A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME. SORRY FOR THE CONTINUATION OF SUSPENSE BUT HEY. ITS MY STYLE ;)
---------------------------------------
I had to bite back my urge to reply with a snarky remark. My impatience was so great at this point in time. What was to say that with his track record that he was going to just zone out again. I was even more impatient and on edge because of the exploding lightbulb. Most of all though, his reaction to it had set me off the most. Who the heck says something like that and acts like that was a normal day occurrence. Not that I didn't want my questions answered, I did, but how could he just brush off the situation and go onto a different topic.
Despite my frustration and bewilderment, I wasn't stupid. I knew that this guy was not one to be corrected too often, if ever. I got the uncanny impression that I had been very fortunate to of even gotten away with my previous outburst.
"So", his clipped tone caused me to stand rigidly, "What the hell were your questions again?"
I gave him an exasperated glare that suggested he was an idiot. That only earned me a cynical warning glare, which I ignored. I had to let out my anger in some way. No matter how small. As of the moment, my small attempts were helping, if only slightly.
I opened my mouth to answer but all that came out was small exhale of air that should have been used to form words. Only problem was, I didn't have any. In fact, I was actually sort of lightheaded.
He cocked his eyebrow at me inquiringly.
"I, uhm", I definitely was lightheaded, "I...", I rocked a bit back on my feet.
My head was swimming and my whole body felt buzzy one moment and the next moment my whole body felt like lead.
And like lead, I dropped.
If I had remained even slightly coherent for even a moment longer, I would of seen Kaeston's cold façade break apart. I would have seen the genuine concern in his eyes as he moved immediately to me and got to me quick enough to be able to catch my head in a cradling position, just before it would have cracked against the concrete flooring.
I would have seen emotion on this seemingly inhuman man.
Instead all I saw was swirling and then I saw nothing at all. I felt nothing at all. I thought nothing at all.
Under any other circumstances it may have been nice to have nothing stressful going on in my mind. This circumstance wasn't the sort I preferred though. This was nothing like sleeping.
KAESTON'S P.O.V.
I was waiting for some smartass remark to slip past her lips. I was almost daring her in my mind to say something. I was beyond angry at the moment. No one had ever gotten away with speaking to me in such a manner. No one had actually tried, to be honest. This girl confused the hell out of me.
At first I was confused by her lack of speaking and mistook her exhale of air as being in shock about what had just occurred. No matter how frustrated with her I was, I understood why she needed the answers. She had absolutely no idea. Not a clue to why these things had always happened to her. She was so utterly clueless that she was terrifying herself.
Apparently I was very wrong about the reasoning for her silence. I had failed to notice her breathing slow and I cursed myself for not noticing the defocused look in her eyes as I dove towards her. Damn her for not knowing that what she does takes most her energy when she wasn't trained. But also damn me for not thinking of it to avoid this situation.
I would have been to her sooner but I was slightly awkward due to the fact I was on a raised surface. I at least stopped her from hitting her head. I then took the rest of her condition into inventory.
"Damn it."
