Chapter 6
THE BOYS POINT OF VIEW-
She took my arm and followed me outside. I smirked to myself. She was quite trusting. But then again so were a lot of humans. Once we stepped outside I cast a sideways glance at her and saw her eyes had widened in surprise at the sight of garden. I did have to admit the boy's father had used the money I have given them quite nicely.
I smiled as I thought back to that encounter.
FLASHBACK:
Josh's Father was on his knees in front of me begging for me to spare him and his wife who at the time was pregnant with a son.
"Please. My wife is pregnant. And-and... we are horribly poor. We have no way to provide for the child. Please help us." I looked down at him and tried not to smirk. The truth was I had known he would seek me out. I had made sure a rumor of my abilities was spread through out the small town that he lived in.
"You have sought me out. Even knowing of the possible danger and power I possess." I grabbed his face in my hands roughly. I had to add emphasis how serious and dangerous I was so he would uphold the deal I was about to offer him. I had to ensure he wouldn't forget in the future. His part in all of this was crucial. The domino effect had to start here.
"Y-Yes. I-I need your help. I-I need wealth... I-I am willing to D-do anything..."
I smiled wickedly and let go of his face causing him to sigh in relief. I had to hold in an eye roll at his weakness to stand his ground.
"Alright. I am willing to make a deal." I watched as his eyes gleamed with joy. Humans were always so predictable. "If I provide you with extreme wealth... You are to create a huge mansion which within it you hold many extravagant parties at the end of each year of your sons high school years. Do not miss a year. I will attend each one."
I watched confusion pass over his face but I could tell he was still willing to do whatever I asked of him. It wasn't like I was asking him to do something horrible. To be honest that is probably the cause of his confusion. Little did he know how lucky he was. I could have asked him to have done anything.
"The last party of his graduation year. Should be the most extravagant. You will make sure everyone will want to go. Am I understood?"
I wanted every possible girl there. It was necessary that I had the widest possible variety to choose from. I smiled widely as he agreed and thanked me profusely stumbling over his words the whole while.
END FLASHBACK
When I had seen her I had known she might be the one. I found she was less predictable than most humans. And I found it highly amusing the way she had corrected me when I purposely messed up her name. Definitely a slip on her part not to wonder how I knew her name but it worked in my benefit regardless.
As I walked with her I made sure to only slightly use my abilities to ensure she would freely speak to me. I wasn't forcing her to speak, just making her less nervous and more comfortable. Anxiety can really get in the way of getting to know someone. It was very important to know what girl I would be with. She began to speak to me about her whole life and I found myself hanging on her every word, genuinely interested. I led her to a concrete bench. It was sort of cute actually that she hadn't seemed to notice she had sat down. She just continued talking and I was happy to continue to listen.
"I came from an orphanage. I never knew who my true parents were. I had been adopted about two times by the time I was five and both had returned me. The first time it was because I got so excited when I was with them at dinner and when "Mom" brought over the food the crystal pitcher exploded causing glass and water to go everywhere. I was shocked. It was just so weird that it just exploded but then I was even more confused when they put me in the car and took me back because they said that 'I had grabbed it and smashed it against the table'! I hadn't... It had just exploded... Things like that happened in the next house too except with the vacuum cleaner... But then I finally got a family that didn't care. Well they cared but they seemed to forgive me and eventually as I adjusted to the home and got to know them all. Well the odd things just...Stopped happening."
I continued to listen with shock and complete interest as she continued to speak. As she spoke to me about her younger sister Gracie I tuned out a bit and began to think to myself.
I observed that she seemed to have a guarded demeanor around herself at all times. Sort of like she was ready to be turned down or rejected at any time. But as she had told me about her past I could understand that her past had obviously caused her to become like that.
She suddenly stopped speaking. She seemed to be sort of afraid to look up and I could sense from her that she thought that I would be looking at her as if she were insane. I had to keep myself from laughing.. If only she knew what I was. What I could do. She would think that I was the insane one. That's when I decided.
"You are a very strong girl. And quite an interesting specimen."
I had decided she was the one. That she would be mine.
After she looked up at me she relaxed when she saw I hadn't judged her in any negative way. I had been sure to look as I honestly felt at the moment. Nonjudgemental. When she looked in my eyes I sent her soothing feelings so that she wouldn't become suspicious at the fact I had slipped up and called her a Specimen. It was no where near the time for her to know yet.
I was shocked when she was able to look away from my gaze early. But I made sure to keep myself composed.
"I know absolutely nothing about you." She said this as if she didn't know whether she was speaking to me or herself. I guess my gaze still had affected her human mind but the fact she was able to look away was what interested me the most. But I couldn't let her know about me. Not yet.
"You will learn all in due time. Don't worry about that. The party ended about an hour ago though." I had to distract her in some sort of way. Humans had short attention spans at times. As expected her train of thought was diverted away from me. How predictable. What I didn't expect was that she would have the strength to leave me and begin to jog away.
"I should go! Shay is going to flip out on me!"
I looked at her as she began towards the house. I guess I had chosen correctly. I cant let her leave now.
There was something about her. Something that drew me to her. So I acted upon impulse pulled by a sort of hunter and prey instinct.
I kissed her neck. Then I transported myself back to my Manor. I could already begin to sense her.
I looked at my arm.
My tattoo of a rose with thorns turned gold. And i sensed her lose consciousness.
FAST-FORWARD:
I stood outside her window perching lightly upon the ledge of her windowsill. Her friend was speaking very shrilly and I could tell her voice was just as obnoxious to me as it was to her.
Finally the girl I assumed was Shay left.
I turned my attention to Jinx. How was she not remembering?
Maybe she had hit her head. Though I could tell that wasn't true. I would have known.
I sent a suggestion to her through the "Connection". And watched as she ran towards the mirror. I watched her in fascination as she moved her hair aside and looked upon the mark I had given her.
I could sense her shock and wonderment.
"I'll be back later." I whispered. Then I disappeared.
