Chapter 3
Shay and I pulled up in front of the house and a man in a butler uniform came up and took the keys and parked the car for us. Shay and I exchanged glances and she whispered in my ear.
"I could get used to this sort of treatment." We both laughed as we headed up to the mansion already beginning to feel like royalty.
As we headed over to the large doors a man asked for our invitations and we gave him the IPads that displayed the invitation upon it. In all honesty I still had difficulty fathoming how Josh's family became so rich. I'm not even sure how many numbers were needed to show much money was put into giving every upperclassman an IPad with an invitation to his party on it. Plus what does he do with them when he gets them back? Who needs that many IPads? I mentally shook myself back to reality.
We both walked inside and found ourselves inside a big ballroom. When I glanced up I could see a giant crystal chandelier that hung from an extravagantly decorated high raised ceiling. People were all around chatting either inside or on the patio that was at the other side of where we stood.
Shay headed to the dance floor and I made my way to the table full of appetizers and refreshments. I got a small plate of some bite size sandwiches. 'Ugh. Rich people food. Why is it always so small?' I thought to myself as I tried to not look like I was piling the whole table onto a small plate. I figured I could walk away and come back in a few minutes for more if I deemed it necessary.
Once I had finished nibbling on my food a low yet attention grabbing voice addressed me catching me off guard. I whipped my head up abruptly brought out of my happy thoughts of food and what I would be probably eating later tonight when I got home.
"Hey Jinxy," A boy about my age was addressing me while putting an interesting twist on my "nickname". Had anyone else said it they would have seemed childlike but coming from his mouth he managed to seem teasing but alluring all in one go. I had no idea who he was but I couldnt help but admire his good looks. He had short sandy blonde hair that was all messy but upon further inspection I could tell it was purposely styled with gel to seem that way. His eyes were a green that sparkled with humor as if we were both in on some sort of joke. It seemed hard to believe that flirty smile and those sparkling eyes were all directed towards me. I noticed I was staring a bit too long and there was no way he hadn't noticed by this point.
"It's Jinx." I inwardly cringed at how uninterested and borderline rude my voice sounded. I stared at him waiting for his response and prepared myself for what every guy always does when they realize I'm a rude and socially awkward human being.
"Jinx." He smiled at me warmly not at all seeming insulted. "Alright then. Jinx it is", he tilted his head inquiringly at me, "Well Jinx. Would you like to go for a walk with me? There's quite an impressive garden here."
I blinked in surprise. Quite surprised that he hadn't blown me off and went to find another person to talk to. I mean I had just snubbed him right off the bat. I guess I was going to get a chance to make it up to him. I couldn't help the excitement that went through me.
"Of course. I would love to." I was glad my voice hadn't wavered at all. I was super nervous.
He put his arm out like a complete gentleman and I in turn placed my arm around his as he led me outside into the garden. Under the star filled sky, leaving me to wonder how long I had been hanging out by the snack table.
