Chapter 20
(Kaestons POV)
I looked around in satisfaction.
"Everything is ready."
I quickly teleported and silently appeared in a dark, quiet area behind a tree. I could see Jinx walking. I could sense through the bond she had just used up all her energy running.
"Perfect."
Jinx POV
I trudged along the sidewalk. My feet making scuffing sounds since I had no more energy left.
I muttered to myself more out of the need to penetrate the silence around me.
"Stupid running and the stupid puddle. Stupid bad luck and...."
I broke off mid-sentence. I wasn't completely sure what had caused my steps to falter. I stopped walking and tilted my head to the side in an attempt to hear better although I wasn't quite sure doing so really made much of a difference.
There weren't any sounds as far as I could tell, so that couldn't of been what caught my attention. I took a few more steps and right when I started to pass a tree my hand flew to clutch my neck.
Right where my tattoo was. The skin had begun to heat up and I winced as it got hotter.
All of a sudden I began to hear laughter. The same laughter that had haunted me ever since the party. But it was different this time. This time the laughter wasn't in my head. It was right infront of me.
My eyes widened as Kaeston stepped out from behind the tree to stand in the middle of my path to the bus stop.
The bus stop which was now only two blocks from where I now stood clutching the side of my neck.
"Good to see you again." He smirked and waved his hand at me, "Sleep."
That was when the pain shot through my body and I succumbed to the darkness.
