Chapter 5

Groggily I started to awaken. Before I even opened my eyes I could tell that I was no longer on the ground. I also could tell that I felt like absolute crap.

I moaned and my eyelids fluttered open. Sunlight flooded my senses but what I found awakened me more than the light was ironically once again Shay's voice.

"Oh my goodness! Are you okay???" She squealed in concern and my gaze flicked towards her.

"How'd I get here...?" I knew I had passed out outside in the garden behind the mansion. So I had no idea how I had ended up back in my own room...

"Well after the party ended I waited and waited for you to show up," She gave me a somewhat irritated glance,"But you didnt , so after awhile I realized something must of happened. So I asked around and heard you went outside with a very attractive man!", She gave me a look that stated we would talk about that later, "and then I found you passed out on the ground! What happened?"

"I'm not quite sure... After the guy dissapeared I just... I dont know... passed out..." I didn't know why I was avoiding telling her about the kiss. I just couldnt bring myself to talk about it. It all was too strange.

"What do you mean dissapeared?" She looked at me quizically.

"One moment he was there and the next he was gone." I could tell what I was saying sounded crazy and that genuinely frustrated me.

"Jinx people dont just 'disappear'. Maybe you zoned off like you do at times and didnt notice him leave or you hit your head harder than you thought", she reached out to feel my head and I shook her off.

Her suggestion was exactly what I wanted to believe so badly. I wanted an explanation for the odd thing that had occured. So I tried to convince myself and nodded to Shay in agreement, "Yeah that must of been it. I probably just got my head too hard..."

"Still rude he just left you there though. The nerve of some people." Shay huffed in annoyance.

I ignored her as I thought deeply. i couldn't convince myself of the fact I had just hit my head. Shay seemed to gladly accept it though and started rambling on about some guy she had also met and danced with all night. I nodded and said the appropriate responses when I felt it was necessary but I wasn't really listening. After awhile she finally noticed my mind was elswhere.

"I'll... Give you time to rest up." With that she left. I could tell she was a bit insulted I wasn't willing to listen to her night as well but she was understanding enough to the fact I had passed out. After a few minutes I could hear the engine of her car fade into the distance.

Next thing I heard was my parents calling up from down stairs. "We are going out to dinner. We might be back a little late. Don't worry we will take Gracie with us. Do you want us to grab you some food to bring home?"

"No thanks I'm fine. Have a nice time", I yelled down. I silently thanked them for taking Gracie with. As much as I loved spending time with her I just wasn't up to babysitting right now. I had too many thoughts on my mind.

I heard the door close and I just stared at the ceiling for awhile. Suddenly I remembered the pain I had felt in my neck before I had passed out. I got up and rushed to look in the mirror that hung above the sink in the restroom. I couldn't help but gasp in shock.

On my neck, where he had kissed, was a tattoo of a black rose with thorns around it.
