Chapter 30
———
I woke up with hot tears streaming down my face. The dream had left my consciousness but the emotion of pure sadness remained. I wiped my face with the back of my hand. I shimmied until I was laying propped against the backboard behind me and adjusted the pillow so I was laying on a cushion. I just woke up and I was already bored. Shortly after I had that thought the door opened and Kaeston walked in.
"What if I was still asleep? You would of woken me up. I'm not a morning person Kaeston." I warned him.
He waved his hand at me dismissively which irritated me. "I knew you were awake."
"Alright I know you said after training you would answer one question blah blah but I want some answers now. I'm bored. It's the least you can do. Especially since you were going to answer my questions earlier before I passed out and broke my leg."
I crossed my arms over my chest showing that I wasn't going to back down from this. He stared and me expressionless before sighing and sitting on the foot of the bed facing me.
"Fine."
I blinked in surprise. "Fine?"
"That is what I said." He lifted one eyebrow at me.
"Okay good." I smiled pleased with myself.
"These emotions. They aren't mine and I've figured out they are somehow yours. Right?" I almost hoped I was wrong and there was a reasonable explanation for this.
He nodded when I finished speaking and my heart sunk. Damnit.
"Okay then. How and why?"
"The tattoo. When I kissed your neck it marked you and over time the bond connected us more deeply. The um magic I put in it was a bit of my own essence and over time my matching tattoo connected to your essence as well. So we can feel each others emotions and even talk in each others minds. With practice you will be able to as well."
I wanted so badly to call him crazy and tell him all of this was impossible but I had seen and experienced these things on my own. I knew he was telling the truth.
"Anything else tattoo related I should know?" I didn't want anymore surprises.
"Well. Yes. I wasn't going to tell you yet until you were better though." He awkwardly scratched behind his neck.
"Tell me."
His expression went dark and I felt his emotions close off to me. The room almost felt colder as well and I pulled my blankets further onto myself subconsciously.
"I don't believe you want to know that yet Jinx. Weren't you enjoying the fact we could bicker? Things will be different once you know."
I was confused at his statement.
"Why would things be different?" His statement reminded me I was getting to friendly with the murderer of my family and I felt ashamed with myself. How would my family of felt if they knew I was talking normally to their killer?
His eyes seem to pierce through me as if he felt my inner turmoil. As I'm sure he probably did. I would have to learn how to close myself off from him as well eventually.
"Because it ties into why you are here."
"Then you definitely have to tell me."
"Fine. I can cause you pain and by doing so make you do as I desire", I want to speak and he cut me off with a glare, "Once you heal you will be working for me. Your abilities will be of use to me."
"The hell I am. And abilities?"
"You act as if you have a choice. You don't have a choice and you will learn that in due time", his cold stare made it hard for me to breathe, "and yes your name is sickly ironic. You aren't jinxed. You are just a rare human who has access to certain abilities which are tied to your emotions. Which is why things happen every time you get too emotional."
I didn't know how to respond to everything he had just told me. I felt overwhelmed. Every time I had been sent back to the orphanage due to odd occurrences I had been convinced weren't my doing, in all actuality had been me. All I could manage was to stare at him in shock.
"Told you you weren't ready."
"Its just... a lot to process. What do you mean I will be working for you?" I prayed it was a normal business. Or maybe I'd be on a Marvel team.
A dark glint came to his eyes and he smirked as he stated, "You will be committing crimes for me. I'm your master I guess you could say."
His voice made me scared to retaliate and he walked out of my room leaving me feeling chilled and terrified.
