You find yourself shaking slightly while you're walking to Token's house. You have his present and everything and your bathing suit is under your clothes for easy access, so what's the problem? It's not like you're missing anything.
... Well, the issue is that you haven't exposed your body to anyone in a very long time. It's not often that you go to the pool because you never had anyone to go with. You've grown used to being by yourself, but now you're going to be surrounded by many people, some of which you don't even know.
You arrive at his house and you feel yourself going into shock. Everyone was telling the truth when it came to his family being rich, but you didn't expect his house to be so damn big. This has to be bigger than the rest of the houses for sure! Swallowing the lump in your throat, you walk along the very beautiful walkway to his front door. You lift your hand to knock, but the door opens before you can do so.
Token stands there in all his glory, wearing a loose white t-shirt and a dark blue pair of swim trunks with a pattern of bears playing the ukulele. On the corner of them is the Ralph Lauren logo. Of course they're a designer brand! You don't really know what you expected. "(Y/n), you're here way early! You wanted to see me that bad?" He teases you lightly.
"Perhaps," you banter right back. You hand him his present with a gentle touch. "Something you'll learn about me is that I always like to be early."
"I see that." He leads you inside, and you take the time to look around in curiosity. His house is absolutely immaculate. He and his parents went all out, too, with giant hanging balloons and all. You can only assume that the backyard looks even more decked out.
He slides the door to the backyard open and takes your hand in his own. You feel his warmth emanating and mixing into your own... it's very comforting. He takes you to the side of his huge pool. He sits down, putting his feet in the water. You do the same.
The backyard is beautiful. There's a fire pit near the pool, where a walkway connects the two. There's a tiki bar against the fence, which you can tell is loaded with lots of mixers for alcohol. You are a little curious to know what the cocktails would taste like, but you know that you'd have your ass on a silver platter (or a paper plate... or a napkin) if your mom found out. "Where are your parents? I was nervous to meet them!"
"They're getting the catering. They decided to get just about everything in the whole restaurant," he snorts and begins to list off of his fingers. "Kalua pork, short ribs, fried fish, spicy chicken, macaroni salad, crab r—"
"Okay, okay, I get it!" You laugh. There's a pregnant pause between the two of you, just basking in each other's presence. Your hands haven't left each other quite yet. "Hey... Token. Are you rather close with your parents?"
He looks at you with a soft smile on his face. It seems like he doesn't know how to answer, which worries you just a bit. Does he... not have a good relationship with them? "Yeah. I feel like they understand me. They have high expectations for me, maybe because they both have very good jobs... but I guess it's to be expected, right?"
"Of course. They just want the best for you." You look down at the clear water, smiling slightly. It's a really good thing that he has a good relationship with his parents... you just wish you could relate. You bet that they would never compare him to the other kids, or invalidate his feelings, or read his personal journal and yell at him about it, or tell him that he's going to go into a group home, or—
"(Y/n)?"
"H-Huh, what?"
Token tilts his head, looking rather concerned for you. Was he saying something to you and your thoughts just drowned him out? "Are you alright?" He asks.
