It was the second day of the prelims for their district. The boys were drenched in their own sweat after a hard game. Their game was in their favor, but just like the game yesterday, Jungwoo refused to pass the ball to Yuta which resulted in the opposing team to score.
"What the hell were you thinking? Yuta was free so why did you pass it to Sungchan?" Jaehyun shouted. He apologized the moment he saw Iseul flinch at his sudden outburst. "I'm sorry, Seul."
"He was at a disadvantage with their ace on him. That was stupid." Sicheng added.
"Everyone, calm down first. What's important is we won the game." Taeyong tried his best to keep the situation from escalating. "Let's drink some water to cool off."
"No, I agree with Jaehyun and Sicheng. We could have lost the game." Mark spoke up. "I know you guys aren't in good terms for whatever reason, but keep that shit for outside the field."
"Sungchan should have been able to get past that. If Yuta is our ace and graduating, Sungchan should live up to Yuta's legacy, right?" Jungwoo reasoned.
"I'm sorry. I should have played better." Sungchan hung his head low as shame burned his whole body.
Doyoung grit his teeth as he stepped towards Jungwoo. "I've had enough of your attitude-"
"Enough. Sungchan, it's not your fault." Iseul finally intervened, stepping between them. "It isn't just the matter of Yuta being the only one free or the fact you refuse to pass the ball to him. Everyone else had less pressure on them and could have kept the flow in our favor. You have no excuse for trying to throw the game."
"Defending him, huh? That's so sweet." Jungwoo quietly mused. His smile never faltered, but Iseul could see the emptiness behind it. It was something she wished she saw earlier.
"You're going to be benched until the further notice. Reflect on that mindset you have."
"Fine by me. If that's what you think is best for the team, then I'll gladly take the bench." Jungwoo shrugged, walking to his locker.
Doyoung put a hand on her shoulder and let out a happy sigh."Seul, I think you dropped this."
"Dropped what?" Iseul mumbled, looking at the floor below her. She could feel her phone in her pocket and she was sure her wallet was with Yuta.
"Your crown." He grinned, ruffling her hair.
"I can't believe you stood up to him." Sicheng added. "I got it all on video. Daeun went to the restroom at the wrong time."
"May I?" Yuta asked. As much as he wanted to hug her, she might have not been okay with how sweaty he was. She shook her head and grabbed a damp towel to wipe his sweat first. "My bambi is the best."
"That was the right thing to do, right?" Iseul worried. As much as she tried to assure herself she did the right thing, it oddly felt wrong for her. She wouldn't let Jungwoo do that to other people.
"I think it is. His pettiness could risk a our chances of getting into the championship." Yuta affirmed. "Don't be sad. What does my bambi want to eat today? Let's eat out."
"But, I got to pick last time. Is it alright is I choose again?" She looked up to him for reassurance and smiled when he nodded. "Does sushi sound nice? I've been craving it for a while now."
"Are we invited?" Sicheng asked.
"Is that even a question?" Yuta laughed. "Just pay for your bill."
"Sungchan!" Iseul didn't hesitate to pull him into a tight hug the moment he passed by. "Don't let what Jungwoo said get to you. You did great!"
"Thank you, noona." Sungchan smiled. He looked at Yuta who gestured for the younger boy to hug her back. "I'll do better next time."
