Don't Get Your Hopes Up

(Y/N)'s P.O.V.

I moved one of my hands over the bow in my hair, taking note that it was just the same as the one I had lost; given that it was a small hair accessory, it made sense how I was able to get a replacement as quickly as I did. But, even if it's small, my hero costume just doesn't feel complete without it!

After I was done checking the bow in my hair, my hand grabbed onto the strap of my satchel.

I wondered if I should send a small thank-you letter to the support company, or if that would be too much for replacing something as small as one of my accessories. Well, I doubt they get many thank-you letters for bigger repairs, so... maybe?

Giving my head a small shake, I decided that I could decide on that later, and instead focused my attention to the front of the small crowd my class made up, where All Might was standing; as my eyes took in his presence, having not seen him in person for some time, my mind went back to Mimic's attempt at mimicking the number one hero's voice from memory.

It took a small bit of effort to not laugh at the memory. Mimic made him sound so formal...!

The most that I was willing to let out was a smile.

"I am here!"

All Might had his fists on his hips, and his iconic smile on his face. "Hope you're ready to return to our lessons! Today it's Hero Basic Training! Feels like I haven't seen you in a while! Welcome back!"

As the number one hero spoke, my mind kept imagining his words coming out in a more formal way, but I shook it off.

It would be incredibly rude to laugh at someone out of nowhere, especially if that someone is the number one hero.

"Now then, listen carefully for what's in store. We're going to be conducting a little race," All Might said, and I managed to get my mind back on track, not wanting to miss any of the instructions for today's training, "Take everything you learned from your internships, and apply it to this rescue training."

One of Iida's arms shot up, making me glance over to the class representative. "If it's rescue training, then shouldn't we be at the USJ instead?"

"Ah, that facility specializes in disasters. As I said earlier, this is a race, so... prepare!"

All Might gestured over to the Training Ground that was behind him. "You're about to step into Field Gamma. Inside is an area full of factories that form an intricate labyrinth... so, good luck finding your way around. You'll be competing in groups of five or six. Each person starts from a different location on the outskirts of the model city. I'll send a distress signal, and you do what you must to rescue me. Whoever finds me first wins! But, try to keep the property damage to a bare minimum, please."

The number one hero pointed over to Bakugo, who averted his gaze as he appeared to mumble to himself.

I let out a small snort as I realized that Bakugo had the most destructive Quirk in the entire class; everyone else's had the ability to be used in a constructive manner, but his could only destroy things. Well, unless he doesn't use it when around other things... which might be hard when in cities, or forests, or... most other places in the world...

"Alright, first group, get to your places!"

It only took a few minutes for the first group to have found their spots, and it was already obvious to me that (F/N), the sixth member of the first group, had no chance of getting to All Might first. Compared to the other students who were in the first group, (F/N) was just some teenage boy with really good hearing abilities. It'd take a miracle, or spontaneous mutation, to even set him on the same level as everyone else in speed and agility!
