Natsu's P.O.V
A few moments before...
I had been sniffing the air to pick up on Lucy's scent. It wasn't hard to tell the difference between everyone else's and hers. She always smelled like vanilla and strawberries to me. It was my favorite. Not that anyone else knew that and I sure as hell wasn't going to tell them. If I did Gray would definitely never let me live it down.
Everyone had went different ways into Lucy's section to make sure that she wasn't in one of the later tents, but I knew exactly where she was. My nose never lead me wrong. I walked to the biggest tent and knew that it was most likely the leaders. So Lucy was in this one? I hope she wasn't having too hard of a time dealing with him. I knew she was tough, but even I sometimes struggled with the bigger bandits.
I raised my arm to quickly open the flap that entered into the leaders tent. I saw Lucy immediately. The leader of the bandits had just ran past her. "Lucy!" I yelled. I had been worried that the big brute was about to run into her whenever I yelled her name, but I soon regretted saying anything at all. Her long blonde hair flew around onto her shoulders as her big chocolate eyes looked over too me. At first her face showed no signs of pain and I had thought that maybe he had missed. A small smile played on her lips, but then the world seemed to come crashing down. Lucy started to fall forward, her white and blue top starting to turn a pinkish color from the blood spreading, as I ran to catch her. I didn't get there in time before her face hit against the cold hard ground.
My blood began to boil as I heard the giant brute begin to laugh. His voice husky and deep, "That's what the mute one gets for being so weak and messing up my pretty face!" I stopped dead in my tracks. The vein in my neck beginning to pop out from how angry I was getting. I could feel the vein on my forehead starting to pop out as well. I looked up at the bandit with hatred filled eyes. He raised an eyebrow at me. A slight grin on his face, "Oh what's this. Have I hurt the little pups love interest?" My fists instantly ignited into flames.
I looked down to Lucy's unmoving body. There was so much blood on the ground. Her sweet strawberry vanilla scent starting to mix with death. I couldn't stand the idea of losing Lucy over something so stupid and something that would be completely my fault. I almost couldn't hear the psycho's laughing over the pounding of my own heartbeat in my ears. I could feel my flames getting hotter and hotter as I got angrier. He hurt MY Lucy. No one hurts my Lucy and gets away with it.
It was like my instincts instantly took over. Wanting to avenge her for being hurt so badly. I propelled off my feet with my flames as boosters and aimed to punch him directly in the face. "AH!" He screamed as I got close. He just barely managed to dodge my fist that would've sent him flying into the next town. I guess my flames must've burned his face a little because when I landed on my hand to flip back over to look at him the ends of his beard were on fire and he was patting away at them furiously to get the flames to go out. A small grin appeared on my face. "We're just getting started rock for brains. I'm going to make you regret ever hurting Lucy!" I screamed at him and launched for another attack.
Lucy's P.O.V
Natsu had distracted me whenever he had came in screaming my name. I hadn't expected it, so when I turned and my eyes met his it was like my world had frozen. Even as the blade entered my back right shoulder blade all I could do was give a small smile to him. It was good to see him. Even if this would be my last time looking at his face.
All the strength in my body seemed to fade quickly. My legs giving out quickly causing me to fall forward. I felt the blade slide out slowly and I wanted to scream out in pain, but all I could manage was a grunt as my face hit the cold hard ground. I know Natsu had tried to run and catch me, but he didn't make it in time. The stinging on my face was nothing compared to the pain that was coming from my shoulder blade. I guess that would make sense since it was such a long blade that had stabbed into me.
My eyes closed slowly. I didn't want to see Natsu's sadness from me dying. I wanted to remember his smiling face. The only image that came to mind was when we all came back to Fairy Tail after a long mission. He was so happy to be home so he could have some food. It made me smile inwardly thinking about how much all the little things matter to him. He's always been like family to me. More family than my father ever was, especially after the whole Phatom Lord fiasco, but even after all that Natsu never looked at me different and told me that I didn't have to be Lucy Heartfillia because I was Lucy of Fairy Tail. I will never forget that.
Back to Natsu's P.O.V
This brute was putting up a bigger fight than I thought he would originally and there was this type of malice coming off him that made him oddly smell like metal. It even left a metallic taste in my mouth. "I thought you were going to make me regret hurting her? Only thing you've managed to do is burn some of my beard!" He yelled at me. This only made me more angry at him. Lucy still hadn't moved and I needed to get her out of here quick and get her some help. Where were Erza, Gray, and Lisanna?! They should've heard this ruckus by now!
Erza's P.O.V
I had checked all the back half tents, but Lucy was nowhere to be found. I was starting to get really concerned, but I also knew that with Natsu's nose he would be able to find her just about anywhere. So my concern hadn't gotten that high yet. Maybe she was just farther in than I had been able to make it yet. We had decided that we would divide Lucy's section into three so that we could locate her faster. Lisanna was staying at the center just in case Lucy made it there while we were out looking into her section.
I was moving through my part rather quickly and had managed to finally catch up with Gray at just the same time he had finished his section. I looked at him and he shook his head. "I knew flame-brain would pick the section with her in it. That nose of his leads him straight to anyone. Why did we split anyway? We could've just went with Natsu and all found Lucy together."
I shook my head at him slightly. My bangs getting into my right eye slightly. "We also needed to double check that no bandits had managed to escape. Just covering our bases." We both looked at each other for a moment longer till in the distance we could hear Natsu's screams. My eyes widened just a bit and both Gray and I ran as fast as we could towards the direction that we had heard it from. I just hope that neither of them are hurt.
Natsu's P.O.V
I knew that Gray and Erza were starting to get closer to us. They were moving at a decent pace. It was almost difficult to pick out their scents over the smell of Lucy's blood. Her original scent fading at a steady pace as she laid there on the dirty ground. I knew she would probably complain about her clothes being ruined later. She liked the way she looked so I knew that she cared about her clothes.
My temperature output was getting higher by the minute. Some of the fabric on the tent, whenever I got close to it, would start to give off smoke. Their leader was panting now. He must've been getting worn out from fight both Lucy and I, but I wasn't about to let him get away with this. "Y..you just d...don't give up d..do you?" He panted out.
I smirked slightly. "Not when you hurt someone who's my friend. My family. You're not walking out of this tent. I'm just getting started kicking your butt!" I launched at him again. My fist burning brightly. It made the bandit squint his eyes, I guess that made his reaction slower than he anticipated because my fist connected with his right cheek. The impact of my fist connecting with his I could feel the bone shattering as soon as it connected. The force was more than the bandit had expected because it knocked him off his feet causing him to fall onto his back.
He coughed a couple of times. I jumped on top of him instantly. My fists connected with his face repeatedly. "Never! Touch! Her! Again!" I yelled at him. Each word got him a punch to the face. By the time I was finished his eyes were swollen shut. I guess I knocked him out because now he wasn't moving. I quickly jumped off him and ran to Lucy.
"Lucy...you can open your eyes now...I'm here and I'm not leaving your side." But to my disappointment her body was limp in my arms and she didn't move an inch
