The end

Lucy's P.O.V

After a short time everyone, but Natsu exited the room. He was still hugging me gently and I just smiled and continued to hug him back. It felt like everything was finally settling into place.

"Luce...there's something I want to talk to you about if that's ok? And if you want to wait till you're feeling better then I completely understand." He told me at almost a whisper level. He probably figured that the others were at the door listening which no doubt they were.

I slowly pushed him up to look at me and shook my head slightly. Whatever it was that he wanted to talk to me about then we should go ahead. Knowing our lives something g crazy would happen again and we wouldn't be able to talk for weeks.

He took a deep breath and adjusted himself on the bed so that he could sit comfortably. His hands were now in his lap and he was looking down at them. They were clasped together. He was nibbling on his bottom lip like he was nervous.

"N..Natsu. It's ok. Just tell me." I told him. My voice a little stronger this time, but still a little hoarse. I moved my hair back off my shoulders and watched him carefully.

I had never seen him think about something so hard. I could almost see the gears turning in his head as he tried to figure out how he wanted to put it into words.

"Growing up," he started, "Igneel taught me a lot of things ya know? He taught me to read and to write. He taught me my magic. He taught me how much fun it is to go on adventures, but there were also things he didn't teach me." He took another deep breath and ran his fingers through his hair as he thought some more for a moment. "He didn't teach me about love except a families love. He didn't teach me about what would happen to me as I got older."

I looked at him curious as to why he was telling him all this. I know he looks at me like his best friend and no matter how much I want more I know it'll never happen. I know he'll choose Lisanna in the end.

"I want to tell you everything and try to make sense of what's been going on with me lately. I've been having these pains in my chest and other places close to where you were hurt. I have this longing to be with you all the time. I...I think I love you Lucy. And I know you probably..." he didn't get to finish his sentence before I had moved across the bed and tackled him with a hug.

He tensed at first, I could feel it, but he relaxed quickly and wrapped his arms around my loosely. "Natsu...I've been waiting so long to hear you say that." I said. I was almost worried he wouldn't be able to hear me, but I should've known better because he has that dragon hearing.

My face was in his chest when he moved one hand to raise my chin so that he could look into my eyes. "Luce...I know it's a lot to ask right now, but this inner dragon of me is screaming at me to ask." I raised an eyebrow at that, but he just chuckled and shook his head. "Like your inner voice that helps you make decisions. Anyways, what I need to and want to ask is will you be my mate?"

I was a little stunned for words. I mean I had never imagined him asking me. I always figured it'd be Lisanna since she came back because he was always with her, but to hear those words come out of his mouth I couldn't help, but cry a little.

"Woah Luce. Don't cry." He was still smiling his goofy grin, but looked a bit worried.

"No no Natsu. I just thought you'd never ask. Yes, I'd love to be your mate." I smiled and hugged him tightly again.

After a minute he pushed me back slightly and looked into my eyes as he leaned forward. Finally, his lips met mine and I couldn't help, but melt a bit into his arms and kiss him back.

I felt so free and so loved now. I know that as long as I have him that I'll never have to be alone again.
