"Ismene, I've been expecting you" Dumbledore stood from his desk when the door swung open.

"Profesor Dumbledore" Izzy nodded to him as she walked into the office "Am I in trouble Sir?"

"Quite the contrary Ismene. Take a seat" Dumbledore smiled and motioned to the seat in front of his desk "I have been monitoring your magical capabilities for multiple years now"

"Magical capabilities?" Her eyebrow quirked as she sat down.

"Yes, are you aware of what a magic trace is?" Dumbledore peered down at Izzy through his half moon glasses.

"A combination of a wizard's magical capability and wand power that can be traced through a physical spell. It can be used to trace spells to wizards or tell the power of the magic that the wizard yields" Izzy recited word for world "I've only studied it in theory"

"Precisely, now are you aware what this is?" Dumbledore set out a small china teacup in front of Izzy. It had small flower detailing and a gold trim.

"Yes sir, that is my transfiguration end of term exam from 3rd year. I turned a rat into that teacup if I remember correctly" Izzy said proudly

"Right again Ismene" Dumbledore took the teacup into his hand "I traced the magic in it" he stood back up and placed it on a shelf behind him where many miscellaneous objects sat. "Due to the strength of your magic, I'd like for you to attend private lessons with me"

"Strength of my magic?" Izzy furrowed her eyebrows in confusion

Dumbledore stepped out from behind his desk and walked to a mirrored cabinet in a small alcove of his office. Izzy followed him and tried to angle her head to see what was inside. From what she could see there were many glass vials filled with different liquids of which took different hues spanning from gold to a light silver. Dumbledore turned to her and motioned for her to join him. She tentatively stood from her seat and walked over. From this new perspective she could see that the vials were filled with a wispy flowing liquid that floated and appeared to be constantly churning. Some vials had dark spots inside of them, others were twisted with the dark, and some were fully gold. Izzy had to fight the urge to reach out and touch the delicate vials, enchanted by the mesmerizing movement.

Dumbledore reached forward and grabbed several vials and retreated to his desk laying them down before him. When Izzy joined him she could tell that he picked ones with distinct differences between them. Three were bright gold, one was a pale gold, and one was a dim almost silvery color. "I have tested student's magic for decades, these are all magical traces that I have done on transfiguration tests. The brightest are the most powerful and the dimmest are the least powerful. Though many people speculate that powerful magic comes from blood purity I can say with confidence that is not the case." Dumbledore took the dim silvery vial in his hand "This magical trace is from a pure blood, yet it is weak compared to this" He held up a bright gold vial next to the other one "Which is from a muggle born. Remember Izzy no matter what anyone tells you blood has nothing to do with strength" Izzy nodded in agreement as he set down the two vials and held up the dim gold vial "This is the magical trace on an average student" he said before picking up the a bright gold vial "this is yours".

"That's mine?" Izzy's eyes widened in surprise

"Yes, I have encountered very few students who have magic as strong as yours" Dumbledore placed her vial back on the table.

Izzy noticed there was one bright one that he had yet to explain "Who's vial is that professor?"

"That vial is Professor McGonagol's" Dumbledore's eyes twinkled through his half moon glasses as he took the vial into his hand "Once I saw her magic trace I taught her privately as I will do with you"
