tw: mega angst, mentions of death
it was noisy, yet so quiet. the hustle and bustle of people going in and out of the waiting area was nerve racking, and the cries of pain and sadness was enough to drive minho mad. he sat beside his mother, who couldn't control her tears at all, crying and muttering things like "its all my fault" and "i should have stayed". he hadn't said a word to her since he arrived, and he didn't want to. he blamed her, but he knew he had no reason to.
minho looked up as a doctor in a white coat approached them, a blue clipboard in his hand with a few sheets of paper on them. he immediately stood, as did his mother, to hear the news he had for them.
the doctor started with a sigh. "we managed to remove the tumour, but there is a chance that in doing so part of her brain has been damaged," he said, his voice monotonous as he looked between the two.
"what does that mean? is she gonna be okay?" minho asked, worry heavily evident in his voice. he didn't know what he would do without her; he couldn't bare to lose anyone else after chaeyoung walked out on him. minhee was his world, and he would give anything for her to be okay, even his own life.
"at the moment, we're unsure of how it may affect her. if she wakes up, we'll be able to test her cognitive functions and determine what may or may not be wrong. we won't know for sure until then," the doctor explained, tucking the clipboard under his arm and passing some tissues to mrs lee, who was still sobbing.
"can we go see her now?" she said between sobs, the doctor nodding slowly and holding his arm out to the side to escort them to minhee's room. it was a slow and quiet walk, minho trying his best to avoid looking at the other patients laying in white beds, surrounded by their families.
the doctor then lead them into the paediatric ward, and they passed by some more rooms before they were finally shown to minhee's room. minho almost fell to his knees when he saw her, and his mother actually did. she laid in the bed, still as a bug, with all these tubes and gizmos hooked up to her. she looked as pale as a ghost, more even, and her usually plump red cheeks were shallow.
the male slowly walked towards his sister, taking a seat beside her as he grabbed hold of her hand. minho could feel the tears already streaming down his face as he looked upon his sister. "oh minhee... i'm so sorry..." he rested his head on her hand, placing a soft kiss on it as he sobbed beside her.
the doctor helped minho's mother to the other seat on the opposite side of the bed. "if you need anything else, please let us know," he said before leaving.
"wait!" minho called out to him, the doctor then peering his head through the doorway once more with a raised eyebrow. "earlier, you said "if she wakes up". what did you mean by that?" he asked cautiously, having not really decided on whether or not he wanted to hear the answer or not, for he was scared of what it might be.
the doctor stepped back into the room fully, mrs lee raising her head to listen as well. he kept his eyes low. "because of the damage, there's quite a substantial chance that..." he paused for a moment.
"there's a chance she won't ever wake up."
