hyunjin sat in his room alone, his eyes darting across the empty white ceiling. he sighed, and you could tell that he was crying from his soft uneven breathing. he wasn't exactly sure why he was crying at this point in time. it could be due to a number of things, but he didn't have the energy to think about it.
he just allowed himself to lay there comfortably, his long blonde locks scattered around his head like a crown. his eyes fluttered open and closed, the brown orbs within them glazed over with his salty tears. he hated being over emotional; his least favourite trait. it had cause him such aggravation in the past.
with a slight huff, hyunjin stood up, deciding that it would be best if he went for a walk and got some fresh air. his therapist always told him that that was the best thing to do in times like this. so, he slipped on his black vans and threw a shirt over his torso, ready to go out into the chilly breeze of autumn.
the cold air nipped at his reddening nose, his arms wrapping around himself in an attempt to keep himself warm. he regretted not putting on a jacket or a hoodie, immediately cursing at himself as the cold enveloped him. it was too late to grab a jacket now, he decided, opting on just wandering around the campus for a bit. he came across a tall birch tree, it's leaves turning all shades of browns and yellows as they fell to the ground.
the boy found himself sitting below the tree, his back resting against it as he stared up through the branches and into the darkening sky. he pulled his phone from his pocket, dialling the number he had been meaning to call for a while now.
it rung and rung, but there was no answer, leaving a disappointed hyunjin below the tree.
"why do you look so miserable?" a voice asked, startling the blonde boy. he looked up to see that it belonged to none other than kim seungmin, who went to the same high school as hyunjin.
"seungmin, hey! it's been a while," the taller of the two greeted, standing to hug the younger boy, who returned his embrace.
"wow, your hair looks amazing," seungmin commented, remembering the last time he had seen him, he was still a brunette. hyunjin thanked him for the compliment, returning one about his iconic toothy smile.
they sat under the tree again, talking about anything and everything, catching up on life with each other. they hadn't seen each other since they left high school, and hyunjin appreciated the company of an old friend.
"hey seungmin," he called softly, earning a hum from the younger, who had his legs hugged tightly to his chest. "do you think... things would have been different for us if... i didn't... you know..."
seungmin sighed, looking over at the taller male. he took hyunjin's hand in his own, squeezing it softly while he stared into his eyes. "i think they would, but i wouldn't change it. i believe that if we are meant to be, then we will end up together in the end." he leaned forward and placed a soft kiss on the older's cheek, pulling away with a small smile.
the younger stood up, brushing down his jeans to remove any grass or dirt that had transferred onto him. "don't dwell on the past too much," he said, before waving goodbye the hyunjin, who was once again crying.
