Apparition 24: Death over Life

"It's not that! You've got it all wrong!" Kou insisted, approaching you in anxiety. He was about to grab onto your hands, until he witnessed your expression change from the blood coating them.

Your eyes blurred, and you suddenly couldn't think straight. "[Y/N] please! This is all a misunderstanding! You have to listen to me!" The other tried to explain his reasoning. He even allowed you to examine the injuries on his palms with your eyes. "My hands proved that! Hanako's no-"

"You.. You... remember Hanako?"

You interrupted, your wide eyes getting even more agape. Kou was taken aback, set off by the situation he's placed himself in. But in order to dismiss it, he proceeded. "That's not important right now... We have to find Teru!"

His disregard for the subject left you questioning everything around you. You wished that you were hallucinating... dreaming, even.. but no, your cruel reality always had to puzzle you. Your knees felt weak, but you refused to let them collapse. "W...Wait ... I.. don't..-"

"[L-L/N]..." Whispered someone, who's voice was shaky, as well as pained. He stood up, prompting you and Kou to look at Hanako. The apparition appeared pale, advancing with a step toward the both of you. This inevitably caused a dark ooze to trail behind his every footstep.

"Don't.. listen to...--" He'd stagger, "..Him ... He can't be trusted.." Noticeably, his hand rested on his stomach, and upon closer inspection one could notice the blood coating his clothing, also leaking from between his fingertips.

His head lowering just before he ended up collapsing, a harsh sound bounced off of the walls, leaving the remaining people absolutely petrified. "Hey-!" Uttered the blond shortly before he staggered to the side due to your passing figure.

Crouching down immediately, your hands were frantic and you helped the fallen boy to the best of your ability. "Hanako?! A-Are you okay?!" Soon standing up with his arm around your shoulder, he kept quiet until further notice. And because of your aid, your heart plummeted when Hanako's hand clutching his stomach had fell to the side, revealing his deeply punctured skin caused by a fresh knife wound.

"Kou.. He ... pretended that he had amnesia to lure me in.." He told you, shaking your hues. Kou on the other hand, retorted in disgust. "Hanako is insane, [Y/N].. You know that I'd never harm anybody!"

Pulled into a unsettling dilemma, you found your mind cornered by two influences, and it was obvious that the puzzle pieces were all over the place. Yet in spite of your confusion, you felt a natural instinct to believe Kou. Your considerate eyes that now rested on him grinded Hanako's gears.

'Don't tell me she's considering him over me... I'm obviously injured..' He thought. The only way to shift your attention back to your main priority, the apparition grabbed your wrist and then pulled you to turn around, looking at him. "..Ghosts feel.. just as much as humans do y'know..."

Hanako looked down, "We still feel pain, envy, sadness ... so why is it that.. you tend to avoid my feelings...?" Rather than focusing on his wound, he stared at you right in the eye, causing your once scrambled thoughts to fall together.

Something clicked inside of you, and before you knew it you were forced into a embrace. "H-Hanako...! What about your injury?!" At that mention, his squeeze grew even worse. He wasn't planning on letting you go.

"I know that you love Kou .." His head leaning close to your ear, chills descended when feeling his cold breath touch against your skin.

"But you can't let him cloud your judgement..."

Hanako's deranged eyes shifting up to Kou, the exorcist felt him choke on the dingy atmosphere. "You should've seen him... he-- he was really planning to stab me to death.." As he said this, another sinister smile tickled his face, although this time it was much more meticulous.
