You had gone home with Kou accompanying you. His company was enjoyable, and you had a nice time with him in spite of the fact you were probably headed towards your doom. By the time you stopped in front your doorstep, he slung is bag over his shoulder while he grinned beneath the evening's sunlight. "This must be your place, huh?"
You nodded your head, your eyes running over toward the windows to check if the lights were on. Surprisingly, they weren't... You were certain your stepmother was home at this time, waiting for you per usual. "Thank you for walking me home.. who knew i needed it that much." As you bowed a bit to prove your appreciation, Kou flailed his hands around. "It's no problem! Really!!"
His hand touched the nape of his neck, avoiding your eyes a little nervously. "We're friends, aren't we..? This should come naturally, you act like it's your first time." Maybe because it was? You haven't had a real friend since your first year of elementary school. Since then, you've been isolated due to your mother's methods.
"What's this about friends?"
The both your hearts sank to your stomachs immediately, taken by surprise because of an abrupt voice occurring from behind you. It was a tone you recognized, which made the sensation of apprehension all the more worse. Kou was the first to turn around, his blue orbs meeting with that of a woman who towered over him because of the black heels she wore. A smile marked her face, just as you started to turn around fully with obvious hesitancy.
"Oh, you must be Mrs. [L/N]! It's nice to meet you! I'm Kou Minamoto!" Kou bowed lowly, his hands glued to his side. During this time frame, your mother glanced to you, her smile wiped clean. But once the blond straightened his posture, it returned onto the woman's face. "Yes, it's nice to meet you too. I've never guessed that my daughter had a friend... It's ... definitely a change of scenery, I suppose you could say."
You narrowed your head and bit on your lip, feeling the unpleasant aura your parent was emitting. Kou chuckled, completely oblivious to the tension that was thickening as time went by.
Your stepmother went between the both of you to unlock the door. The keys rattling almost made you sick. You were getting immensely fearful, and part of you wished your friend could acknowledge it. Quietly yet desperately, you reached for his shirt, your hand trembling as you gave it a simple pull.
Kou shifted his focus onto you, raising a brow. "[Y/N]...? What's up?" Even though you wanted to tell him, you didn't want to suffer the consequences. Closing your eyes and just standing there while your mother finally unlocked the door, she looked back towards you as she smiled faintly.
"Dear, let's hurry on inside."
You jolted to her voice. Every syllable urged discomfort through your veins, formed goosebumps on your skin... and made you lack the air to breathe.
Releasing Kou's shirt, you'd nod your head submissively, not sparing him a glance as you went on ahead of your caretaker to go inside of the dark space. The blond extended his hand a little, recognizing the change in you. "Hey- hold on..."
Your mother drew in his eye's line of sight. She lifted her hand in a polite wave. "I'm sorry, but she has to study while she waits for dinner. Whatever it is you have to tell her, I'm sure it can wait until tomorrow." She began to close the door slowly, "It was nice meeting you, Minamoto."
Click.
Kou stood there once the door closed. He couldn't shake off the feeling of unease, and it grew heavier once he pivoted on his heel to walk away. "Good night, I guess... [Y/N].."
