Apparition 15: Unwelcomed newcomers

A/N: Sheeeesh-- I haven't updated since the start of last month... Sorry 'bout that, everyone! Life's really getting in the way. But with that said, I've returned with an enjoyable chapter. Saddle up, 'cause it's gonna be a long one!

"Ah!" You shrieked out in pain, body crashing into Hanako's. The apparition looked shocked, and with the pair of confused eyes shifting toward the blond who looked fearful, an heart-sinking sensation overthrew your chest.

What bolted past your body was a vine, the edge shaped into a threatening dagger. Your eyes widened, and once Hanako noticed this, he didn't hesitate in pulling you into his arms while he turned to pensively gaze at the source.

The newly announced apparition had long, draping arms, her locks of hair replaced by black vines that was completely scattered with sharp and prickly thorns. Her lengthy hair inevitably covered only her left eye, while the one on the right had been creepily watching with a dark and dull black pupil.

Her body was dressed with a old girl's uniform, although it was barely noticeable. It wasn't in the best of conditions; being worn out, ripped, and lathered with dirt. You could hear her heavy breathing even from this distance, and it frightened you.

"I can sense the distortion and malice in this apparition's presence... it's practically seeping from her.." He retreated along with you by taking various steps back for caution, "...If I recall correctly, this is Ivy, a vengeful spirit who's lost all humanity..." Hanako then scoffed, "To think we'd meet someone so pesky so early on.."

His eyes then subtly landed onto Kou who'd still been standing there, bewildered. The exorcist slowly reached for his Raiteijou, however as soon as he'd done so, the enemy apparition noticed this in an instant.

An audible hiss sounding from her ghostly mouth, alarming all of you. You shifted your foot forward, ultimately worried about Kou's safety resulting in your advancement. But what made you stop in your tracks was the abrupt movement of Hanako's arm. He prevented you from moving any further, lowering his head a bit to conceal his dull amber orbs. "Wait a second, [L/N]..."

His voice was incredibly dense. The boy's attention shifted over to the other apparition, and then right back at Kou who had became endangered. He didn't want to deny that he had disturbing ideas, one of them including...

To leave Kou to die.

He doesn't deserve to live, not under these circumstances. The exorcist was changing you and your feelings, you could no longer have your entire focus on him. He thought the both of you shared an unforgettable bond, one in which you cherished like he did, but it seems it turned one sided as soon as you bumped into Kou that fateful day.

Hanako clenched his teeth tightly, his hand soon narrowing down to yours to take it firmly. This didn't earn nothing but surprise for you, and his upcoming actions were even worse.

He tried to lead you away from the commotion hurriedly, and as soon as you processed that he was planning to retreat without Kou, you planted your feet into the ground while attempting to break your hand free. "Hanako??! What are you doing?! W.. We can't just leave Kou behind!"

You didn't want anything to happen to him, not anyone for that matter! Putting up with so much struggle inevitably made the other pause, and once he looked back at you, his heart faltered since you looked so angered and desperate. "..[L/N]-"

"No! I'm not gonna sit here and listen to you! Someone's life is in danger! You're... just going to tuck tail and run? Kou's your friend too, isn't he?!!" You screamed at him with your eyes tightly pinched together. Swinging your hand from his in the process, behind you two was Kou-- who exerted a lot of effort into holding back Ivy, that remorselessly attacked him with many counters.
