"Zeke was left more demon than human. With your human heart, it would be a hassle to go up against him."
"So in other words, my human heart is what's holding me back?" Averting my eyes, I couldn't bare to look at him right now...all I could do was nod. Alex released my shoulders and stood straight up. I could slightly hear him whisper under his breath. "Damn it..."
What was running through his mind? Looking back up at him, he simultaneously turned away, walking toward the door. "Alex, where are you going?"
"Out...I need...I need time to think." Standing to my feet was pointless because the second they landed, he was gone. Biting my lip, I fell back against the bed, my body shaking. The way Alex reacted...it only caused me to worry about Caden's words even more.
Jake took a seat next to me, resting his hand on my back. "Like he said, just give him time to think."
"That's, what I'm afraid of..."
"What do you mean by that?"
Honestly, I wasn't sure myself, but...not knowing what he was thinking, that's what terrified me the most. "I don't know."
**
Time passed and Alex still hadn't returned. I laid on the bed, staring at the ceiling while Jake paced the floor. "Dammit, where the hell did he go?" Angrily, Jake blurted out. "It's been hours since he left." It wouldn't be surprising if he was gone for a few more hours...
Sitting up, I threw my legs over the bed. "I'm going to go search for him." Jake stood in front of me vaulting my movements.
"Hold up, do you even know where to look?"
"No, but that's not going to stop me."
"Then, in that case, I'm coming too." He turned and stormed out of the room. I stood there, frozen for a minute. He's right, Alex could be anywhere by now. No, that shouldn't matter...I can't just sit around and wait. I have to find him.
Running out the door, I ended up knocking into Jake, who was just standing there, staring blankly into space. "Jake, what's wr...ong..." I stared at the front door with my entire body withering in fear. There, stood a splitting image of Zander, grinning proudly of himself. His appearance was slightly different, with short red hair, wearing all black. It could only be one other person; Zeke.
"My my, seems as if I've become a greater threat to you all."
"So, this is what you've become, Zeke." Jake stood his ground, keeping a serious tone. I couldn't tell if he was scared or nervous.
Zeke narrowed his eyes a bit, bringing his grin down to a small smirk. "I remember you." He started walking toward us, and Jake held his arm out in front of me, walking back. "Jake, right? Friend to that cocky bastard Caden." He reverted his eyes to me, and corrected himself. "Sorry, that's dead cocky bastard Caden." Pushing my lips together, I tried my hardest not to react to any of his words. In the end, he was able to see right through me. "Strike a nerve, did I?"
"So you remember Caden, too."
"Of course I do. How could I ever forget him? He was what you could say, my favorite toy to play with."
I couldn't hold back the words, and they shot out of my mouth. "You bastard!"
He continued as if I hadn't said anything. "I understand that you were well uninformed about the whole parade. That brother of yours was a real piece of work, also keeping secrets from his dear little sister."
"Shut up.." My voice was quiet, and my hands subconsciously began forming fists.
"Tell me, are you positive the Caden you knew wasn't just a lie?"
"Shut up.." I muttered a bit louder.
Zeke let out a small laugh. "Can you honestly say he was as great as you made him out to be?"
"I said shut up!" I shouted out, unable to hear his words any longer. I grabbed the roots of my hair as I fell to my knees. Dammit, Why am I letting him get to me? And so easily? Why is he saying all these things about Caden? He's making it sound like he was the one being tormented by Caden, and not the other way around. So why...?
I heard Zeke take another step towards us, and Jake gritted his teeth. A hand rested on my shoulder and I flinched. Looking up, I saw Alex standing by my side. "Alex, you-"
"Well, nice of you to join us, Alex!" Zeke shouted over my voice in excitement. I was starting to wonder if you were ever going to make it."
