It was early morning when I woke up again. I saw the sun shining through cracks in the dirt above us. As I tried to sleep earlier on, I heard shuffling. Jennifer was back, and this time she had another guardian. Argent. I sat on the other side of Melissa, shifting as I tried to stop the cramps from forming in my legs. Honestly the pain had gotten worse, but I just had to deal with it.
In the early hours of the morning, I fell asleep listening to Melissa's voice explain everything supernatural to the Sheriff. Maybe now that it's coming from an adult, it'll try to make sense. Hopefully when Argent wakes up, he'll be able to fill us in more. After all he was the one in Gerard's story who knew what the Nemeton was.
I wanted answers. Why Lydia had been drawing this place? Why I recognised the word? Why Jennifer was keeping us here?
That's when Argent stirred and his head shot up. He was groaning in pain and when I saw the huge gash on his head and the blood trailing down, I felt like I was in pain too. "You okay over there?" the Sheriff voiced his concerns as Argent grunted in pain and leaned his head back against the wooden beam he was tied to.
"Chris? It's Chris, right?" Melissa asked and he nodded, before taking in the surroundings and laughing dryly.
"Yeah. Oh." he chuckled under his breath as he shook his head over and over. Obviously he finds it funny that of all places, we were here.
"Is it just me, or has somebody been here before?"
"Years ago." Chris answered the Sheriff pretty vaguely so I decided to fill the others in on the stories I had heard about this place.
"The sacrificial blood, the nemeton. You talked about it being a sacred place for druids,"
His brows furrowed as he looked over at me, confused on how I knew such a personal detail of his history. "How did you know that?"
"Scott, Allison and I went to see Gerard."
"What?" Melissa spun her head to the side to look at me and I just shrugged. This was normal for our group. We put our lives in danger 24/7 and we're never afraid, because there's no room for fear. It eats away at you until you are nothing but a coward. Over the past months, I've learnt not to be afraid.
"It was dire to our investigation."
The Sheriff looked at me astounded, we had a similar investigation to his, just ours was the full story and his wasn't. "But-but you guys are just teenagers,"
"I know. We're just kids. We're not supposed to be heroes." I laughed sadly, not looking at anyone in particular and just down at a spot on the dirt covered floor. "And yet, that's all we seem to be doing. First Peter, then Matt and Gerard and then an entire pack of Alphas. It never stopped." I sniffed back tears, I wanted to wipe at my face but my hands were stuck. They could see my vulnerability.
"Hey, hey it's gonna be okay." Melissa soothed as she patted my leg with her tied hands. We were situated so close together that my knees were touching hers. I appreciated the maternal gesture, but she was wrong. Everything was gonna go to shit. My banshee powers confirmed that.
"No, not it's not." now tears were full on falling down my cheeks and it pissed me off that all I've done tonight is act like a baby and sob in the corner. Out of everyone here, except maybe Argent, I have had the most interactions with the supernatural. Plus I know what lies ahead. I have to be strong, but it's hard.
It's hard seeing people die and knowing you can't do anything to stop it. "I'm trying put on a brave face because I don't wanna scare any of you, but-but I can feel everything. I can see everything. And it feels-it feels like I'm in a graveyard." I announced finally looking between the three parents. They were all watching me, nerves floating around them.
