The sound of water dripping awoke her from a daze, her head banging and racked with agonising pain. Her whole body throbbed from the substantial amount of stress she had undergone within the past few weeks. Eyes adjusting to the blinding light, she shifted on the bed, her hands gripping at the sheets as the springs squeaked beneath her weight.
Glass taking up the wall opposite her, looked like it had been freshly wiped down ready for another viewing party. Grunts of pain escaped the girl's mouth as she pulled against the restraints around her wrists. Brown leather wrapped around them, bounding her to the bed and preventing her from moving around the room at all.
Her eyes drifted down to her chest, crimson staining the once pristine, white nightgown. It was excess blood from the previous experiments, tests and prods. Scars scattered her body underneath and she was scared to even look. What would people think of her? They'd just pity her and she couldn't think of anything worse.
Suddenly, in her peripheral vision, she spotted a figure standing in front of the glass. She flinched slightly, trying to inch back on the bed as the stranger's eyes bored into hers. Heart beating faster, she watched as the crazed girl placed a hand on the glass. Her eyebrows pinched together in confusion as the random girl's eyes remained wide and concerned. Then the voices picked up again and she had to seal her eyes shut to make them stop.
But then a louder voice boomed in her ears, "Listen!" she opened her eyes, watching behind the glass to see the girl still there, both her hands on the glass this time, and her eyes still not blinking. She was waiting for her to speak again but when she did...her mouth didn't move. "Listen to the voices."
Her mouth trembled in fear once she realised this stranger was speaking in her mind, "How-how are you doing that?" her words were barely a whisper, but to the other Banshee it sounded as loud as a scream. The girl didn't answer so she took it upon herself to ask more questions. "You're one too? Aren't you?"
There was no response. Just a nod. A simple yet dire nod that caused her body to tremble in fear. "Then what do I do? How do I make them stop?" she begged the other Banshee for an answer, a way to get out of there or to just learn to make the doctors and orderlies stop. But yet again, there was no response. The girl just closed her eyes and it made the red-head gnaw down on the inside of her cheek. She was terrified. But the fact there was someone like her here too, it made the situation slightly less frightening.
"Listen to the voices." she repeated, this time taking her hands off and taking a terrified step back. "and scream." just as she uttered those words she took further steps back and it caused her heart to lurch in her chest.
"No! Wait!" she tugged at her restraints, thrashing in the bed, trying to get more answers on where she was, who she was, and what else they were gonna do to her. "Hey! Wait, no!" but it was no use, the restraints were too tight and the girl wasn't listening. Unexpectedly, she felt tears escape her eyes and trail down her cheeks as she continued to flail around. The girl was now out of view and it made her sob harder and harder, the voices once again filling her head.
Biting down on her lip she squeezed her eyes shut and shook her head over and over. "Stop! Please just stop!" she bit down hard enough until she tasted blood filling her mouth. Her nails dug into her palm and she finally stopped crying, instead deciding to listen to the voices just as the other Banshee had told her to do. As they filled her head she whimpered in pain, in fright, in mercy.
But then just as every sound around her had died down, the silence was once again filled with a piercing scream, one coming from down the hall. Her ears felt like they were being attacked and she already knew it was that of a so-called Banshee. In fact probably the same one that had stood in front of her glass window mere minutes ago.
