"Eichen House?" Lexie questioned, keeping the phone close to her ear as she shone her flashlight in front of her, making sure to remember the way, but even without the light she could walk there by heart.

"Yeah, and I'm not asking you to come because I wouldn't want to put you through that," Lydia reassured her, knowing how much hell her sister had been through after being put in that place. "but Lexie I swear to god he's here, I heard it." she stopped in her tracks, lowering the light slightly as she lowered her voice.

"Where? How?"

"The strings." for some reason, she smiled, it was weird that the two of them were going through the exact same thing, it was slightly reassuring that at the very least they had each other and their crazy minds.

"Well, I heard them too." she admitted, trudging through the mud and letting out a sigh.

At the sound of her defeated voice, and the fact she hadn't ran straight to Eichen House, Lydia question her abilities. "You didn't hear the same thing?"

"No, I got nothing, nothing that made sense anyway."

"Where are you then?" her sister asked worriedly as Lexie heard rustling in the leaves ahead. She swallowed the lump in her throat. Being in the woods at night was one thing, being alone out there was a completely different kind of hell.

"Facing my fears." she answered, no sign of fear within her at all as she picked up the pace and lowered her phone from her ear.

"Lexie?"

She could hear Lydia still calling her name but she just determinedly pushed past branches and stepped over ditches. "I gotta go Lydia." she hung up and hurried faster. She knew he was here. She could feel it. And she could also feel the distress. Whether he was hurt or just conflicted with his mind, there was nothing okay about him.

"You don't understand, do you?" the figure had a deep voice, no face, it walked amongst the shadows and didn't show itself properly. "It's a riddle." the thing paused, and waited as Stiles laid there, his heart beating like the speed of lighting. He was terrified. "Do you know any riddles, Stiles? Your girlfriend certainly does."

The boy shook his head as he sniffed back tears. "Don't talk about her."

"Think like her Stiles," the monster suggested, "what gets bigger the more you take away?"

He thought about it for a second before answering simply. "A hole."

"What gets wetter the more it dries?" the voice slurred and it made Stiles clench his eyes shut and try not to cry. He hated this, he hated all of it.

"A towel." he croaked,

"When is a door not a door?" his eyes flung open as he remembered that riddle from weeks ago, how Lexie effortlessly translated the sign language into english and it unleashed hell on them all. The words floated around in his head, and hesitantly, he answered the question.

"When it's ajar."

"Everyone has it, but no one can lose it. What is it?" Stiles rooted for the answer in his brain, but he got no luck, there was nothing. He couldn't solve the riddle.

"I don't-"

"Everyone has it, but no one can lose it." the figure repeated, it's voice seemingly getting closer and closer, "What is it, Stiles?"
