PoV: Levi
"Right... Levi?" I heard Hange ask after a short break of speaking and sat up with a quiet groan.
I listened to their words and ranting while I was lying there as useless as some piece of shit, but I couldn't help it any longer.
When they mentioned to just stay and live here, my heart sunk down to my knees. I knew we couldn't do that. Just staying away from everything whilst the rest was fighting. It wasn't something to just do in the middle of a war, eh?As I tried to sit up further on my side, my vision, aka my one eye that wasn't in bandages, switched towards my right hand and I stared at the two missing fingers for a couple seconds in denial.
How would I be any help like this?
"Levi!" Hange suddenly exclaimed and I looked back at them right into a worried expression. What were they doing there anyway?
Feeling dizziness overcome me as I was up further, I began speaking lazily, my voice as raspy as sandpaper, which disgusted me.
"Beast.." I coughed out, then forced my already suffering voice to continue.
"Piece of shit..." Swallowing down the pain that was coming up from speaking, I was thirsting after water.
"Where is he..?" I managed to ask before Hange already walked over and pushed me back to the ground gently, basically forcing me to lie down and do nothing."You don't need to get up." Hange pointed out and a weak smile flicked over their lips before it faded away again.
"Zeke headed from Shiganshina with the Yaegerists, it's been about half a day since then." They carried on and I closed my eyes for a moment to let it all sink in.Half... a day?
"Just..- What happened?"They then asked carefully and my functioning eye that wasn't covered focused back on them.
"I screwed up.." I began speaking while the frustration grew bigger inside of me.
Memories of how the thunderspear exploded because Zeke moved and I was thrown away by the explosion, ending up on the ground somewhere eventually.
"Without realizing he was prepared to die..." I tried to scoff but it just turned into a cough, followed by an annoying expression for my part.
"I let him go again." I glanced away, hiding my embarrassment so Hange wouldn't assume I was simply too weak for fighting Zeke or for accepting my loss."You must be full of regret, huh?" Hange noticed and I slightly nodded since other movements weren't possible for me just yet. It all hurt like hell anyway.
"But for now, what's left.. if we run and hide like this..?" I asked, remembering what they mentioned earlier.
Looking back up at her, I saw their surprised expression followed by a faint pink across her cheeks.
Now I embarrassed them. Good job, Levi."What?" They coughed like they were trying to find an excuse for looking away before calming down more, but they still didn't look into my eye.
"You could hear my soliloquy, huh?" Hange then noticed and rubbed their neck awkwardly before glancing to the ground and drawing into the dirt next to me. Tch. We didn't even have water here with what they could wash their hands later."What are you building?" I asked when my eyes fell upon a wooden construction that looked like some sort of plank with wheels on the ground.
"Are you going to pull me.. with a horse using that?" I pointed at it with my three fingers left on my right hand and gulped heavily because of my dry throat. Speaking grew harder with every word.
"There's no way you can be docile while being kept in the dark.." I added lastly and finally shut up. I really needed to save my words for later."Yeah... That's right. I can't." Hange agreed with a short nod and I sighed before closing my eyes and then opening them again, looking at my companion eventually when I said my following words.
"My objective is.. killing Zeke."
