Seeing Hange down and on the edge of giving up was something I didn't know would personally affect me as well. As I didn't know how to help them and wasn't good with words either. I tried what I could and said what came up, but perhaps it hadn't been enough or they didn't even listen properly.
"Are you serious?" They spoke up after wiping their tears away a few minutes later, my arm still rather weakly around their shoulder as my power was shrinking with every second.
"About what?" I question them back, trying not to say too much so I could catch up the rest of my stamina that I had left somewhere.
"Living here until I'm.. well, how you said it. Ready to get back..?" It sounded phrased hesitant, as if they didn't really want to let it out. The fact they turned their head away added to my theory.
"Yes, I am." As I was speaking, I began resting my chin on their head which was still leaned against my chest, allowing myself to close my eyes for a moment, exhaling some air I didn't realize I was holding in.
"Even if it was a year?" Hange now moved away a small bit, looking at me with still glassy eyes and a tired expression.
Shaking my head, I leaned forward a little, placing my healthy hand on the ground so I wouldn't fall forward.
"Even if it was two or three," I eventually responded quietly, glancing back at them. "Just whenever you'd be ready."A faint red spread over their cheeks whilst we were looking at each other, our faces once more millimeters apart due to me being leaned forward.
Moving away fully and slowly lying back down, I squeezed my eyes shut because a sudden wave of pain overcame me."You should rest." Adding to the bit of red, a small smile also appeared on their lips again. Finally. "Here, take this." Hange took off their cape, spreading it over me best as they could, visibly struggling with getting it right.
"It's fine," I shook it off, using my right hand to slightly push them away.
"Just get some rest as well, if I also have to." Out of reflex I closed my eyes right away for a few seconds, tiredness reaching my senses as Hange already guessed beforehand. In the end they'd always be the smarter one of us.Humanities strongest and humanities smartest trapped in a forest together, how absurd.
"Alright, deal." They went to lie down on the grass again like the night before, but I sighed before clearing my throat.
"Get over here, idiot. We already talked about that and if you get sick as well we're both going to die here." I pointed out, holding the blanket under the cape open a little, offering them to come closer.
"...Fine. Then don't complain if I kicked you by accident while being asleep." The brunette rolled their eyes before scooting over to me, one of their arms over my side faintly, causing my face to heat up a bit.
"I won't." I then responded quietly, turning onto the healthy side of my body, which was in their direction, to be able to also put an arm around them.
"Good night, Hange.""Sleep well, Midget."
