PoV: Hange
Watching the fish over the fire change into somewhat roasted I used one of my hands as support for my head, following my thoughts to nowhere.
As if this wasn't already too complicated. The food wouldn't be enough for a longer time, the fish was just a lucky catch. Depending on how long we would be staying here in the forest, there was also a risk it could start to rain and make everything we achieved back to point zero.
Technically, I could try and start to build something like a smaller cabin or anything, but that would take days- if not weeks.
Just a shelter which would protect us from the rain could already be enough, I should have overthought this more."Hey, four-eyes, the fish is gonna catch fire too if you hold it longer into that." Levi suddenly said and caused me to snap out of it.
"Oh, sorry," I nodded and brought it out, using my pocket knife to part it open and get the fishbone out the best I could. "You can have it all, I'm not hungry and you need it more." I sat down next to him, having it cut in smaller parts so he could chew it better.
"Are you dense? You have to eat too." The black haired gave back and furrowed his eyebrows while shaking his head a tad.
"I already told you I'd be fine. I'll get myself something later." My stubbornness kept repeating itself, and it was probably going to for a longer time.
"Hange, you need to-," he began again but I interrupted him.
"Please. Let me take care of you without that you complain. Just once. Please, Levi." My eyes met his in one gaze for the brink of a second until he turned his head away from me.I felt nervousness come over me, creeping up my back as I sat there in silence with him.
Did I annoy him? Was he mad?
I should have remembered the parts of him he couldn't let go.."Levi?" I asked repeatedly, this time a little quieter.
"Okay." He just said, reaching with his healthy hand for my shoulder to pull himself up furthermore.A small smile appeared on my lips as I felt relief filling my senses that it didn't go wrong.
"Stop grinning so smugly, idiot. Get it done already." He shook his head, his grip tightening a little when he almost fell backwards again.
"Right right." My smile just widened a tad, but I eventually began giving him the food into his healthy hand once he leaned his back against me, my hands reaching over his shoulders as I did so.
It was mainly to secure him, but it was still kind of.. close."I can't eat that fast you imbecile, wait a moment!" Levi complained and coughed as he almost choked on his food, causing me to hit his back so it would stop.
"Ah- that hurts, shit." He hissed a little and I put my hand back again immediately."Oops. Sorry!" I laughed awkwardly, causing him to turn his head towards me because of it, our faces only a few centimeters apart due to the position we were in.
"Hange." He just said, keeping his gaze on me until our eyes met.
"I shouldn't have just done that." I apologized, almost forgetting how to breathe for a good moment.
"No, I wanted to apologize for underestimating you and thinking you shouldn't be the one taking care of me." Levi then took over the talking, still seeming nonchalant at the same time.
"...Huh?""Yeah, I won't say it again, so safe it." He scoffed but didn't look away yet. It was like there were unspoken words in the air, almost touchable.
"I don't expect you to say it again." I shrugged weakly, shaking my head."Why?" His eyebrow raised a little, making it look hilarious because only one of his eyes was even properly visible.
"What?" I blinked several times in confusion.
"Why not?" The black haired one said again."Levi?" I titled my head a small bit, trying to guess what was going on inside of his mind.
"Why won't you make me repeat it? Wouldn't you want to laugh at my miserable self?" He seemed almost desperate, his visible eye widening a little more, giving him a sad expression.
"No." I shook my head slowly.
"Why?"
"Levi can i-,"
"Why?" He didn't stop, fully turned around towards me by now.As he was about to say something again, I cupped his cheeks, shaking my head like before.
"No. I'm not going to laugh at you. You're not miserable or unfixable and this all isn't your fault." I said quietly, smiling a small bit.
"But..-." He looked like he went over his crack point, leaning his head against mine forwards, closing his eye. "Why..?""Because you matter to me." I closed my eyes as well, staying how I was.
