"I need to go talk to Bruce" I say "You're thinking about Bruce? Right now?" Bucky says looking down at me, we are sitting in bed naked with me on his lap "No" I say "Because if you are" Bucky says kissing my neck "There will be a problem" He whispers against my skin, my eyes roll back "Oh" I say silently as I feel him grow underneath me, Bucky smirk matches mine as I lean in to kiss him "Our worries can come later" Bucky whispers with a wink before turning us both around and hovering over me
A couple of hours later, he finally let's me get up. With a lot more effort than I thought would take, he literally pinned me to the floor "Come on, don't leave" Bucky pouts, remaining on the floor "I won't take too long" I say while getting dressed "I am staying right here on this floor" Bucky complains "Right here?" I ask "Yes, I am staying here until you come back" He says "Naked?" I ask "Yes, naked" Bucky says and I smirk "fine" I say leaning down and pecking his lips before leaving with our ripped suits in hand "Hello there" Loki says smirking "You stopped your party early" Loki says and I smirk "Who says I stopped?" I ask
"Wow" Loki says impressed "More than we did?" Loki asks and I nod "It's different and you know why" I say with a laugh "Why are you going into the lab?" Loki asks "Oh good you're both here" I say happily to see Tony and Bruce "Um yeah" Tony says confused "Me and Bucky have a slight problem" I say putting the suits on the table "How did this happen?" Tony asks slightly stressed "Do you really want to know?" I ask and Loki laughs at Tony and Bruce becoming seriously uncomfortable "I do not provide you with fireproof suits for your weird kinks" Tony says "Right, moment of weakness won't happen again. But it's not the reason I am here" I say
"Is everything okay?" Bruce asks "Yes, I just need to get checked for something" I say and they both look disgusted "No, nothing weird what is wrong with you" I say "I think HYDRA might have sterilised me" I say trying to hide how upset that makes me feel "And I need to know" I say "Shouldn't you go to a real doctor?" Bruce asks "Probably but how do I explain the fact that I'm 102 and want to know if I am sterile or not because I was used as a war weapon?" I say "We have a ultrasound machine and we can do some blood tests" Bruce says changing subjects "Okay" I say agreeing
After spending all day in the lab getting blood tests and ultrasounds "Did you get the results?" I ask Bruce, Loki rests his hand on my shoulder offering me support for whatever answer Bruce is about to give me "I'm sorry, but everything we done today shows that you are sterile" Bruce says and I nod "So no chance then?" I ask "I mean, it's extremely rare so" Bruce says "So it's a no" I say "I'm sorry" Bruce says and I take a deep breath "It's fine" I say "It's fine" I say trying to believe my own words, Bruce leaves and Loki instantly pulls me into a hug. Obviously not understanding my pain but trying to help me through it anyways "I-I never thought I wanted them" I say once Loki pulls away
"But I liked thinking I had options" I say "Damn it" I say throwing a giant test tube into the wall just as Bucky walks in "wow" He says confused "You two should talk" Loki says looking down at me before leaving "Is everything okay?" Bucky asks "After yesterday, I got curious" I say looking away "Curious about what?" He asks "I always thought hydra had sterilised me, I just didn't remember it" I say "But you just had a it confirmed?" Bucky asks and I nod, my eyes clouding with tears once again. I see Bucky's eyes clouding too "Hey hey, it's okay" Bucky says pulling me into a hug "I never thought about it before. Until I was with you" I whisper
"I know, me too" Bucky whispers "And I can't" I say "It's okay" Bucky says while pulling away and looking into my eyes "We have other options" Bucky says with a sad smile "We will figure it out as we go along" He reassures me and I return the smile "I love you so much James" I says "I love you" Bucky replies "you know, on the good side" I say clearing my throat "we can always just keep trying" I flirt with a wink "you really make every situation better you know that" Bucky says while tucking a strand of hair behind my ear "I have to" I reply smiling "I planned to go meet Steve today" Bucky says hesitating "it's okay, go. I'll be with Loki" I say smiling, Bucky pecks my lips before leaving. I follow him out and head out into the docks. I sit down with my legs in the water
"Why are you alone?" Sam asks while sitting down next to me "just, thinking" I reply while looking into the distance "you know when Steve, James and I were kids we loved swimming. Steve really struggled out in the beach, James and I would link arms with him the whole way" I say with a laugh making Sam laugh too "I always had a slight crush on James, it was so. Dumb" I say "dumb?" Sam asks and I nod "it was a kids crush, it faded" I say "until it didn't, in the war I knew I loved him" I say "and it took you until this year to say something?" Sam asks "no we confessed our feelings when we were in HYDRA, none of us really believed it" I say "why are you telling me this?" Sam asks confused, I'm not one to talk about my past this way "I just found out I'm sterile" I say looking down "I thought you didn't want children" Sam says and I nod "I didn't" I say frowning
"Then?" Sam asks "I just thought it would be nice to have a child" I admit "James felt the same too" I say "does he know?" Sam asks and I nod "it will be okay, you know. It's not exactly the best thing to happen but maybe there's a reason behind it" Sam says and I finally look at him "After my husband, I was so sure I never wanted them again. I stopped believing in love, just stuck to having fun with guys and focused on trying to win a war. Steve used to tell me I took being a soldier too seriously" I say with a laugh "it's not like we were fighting a war" I say and Sam laughs "ironic isn't it" Sam says and I nod "did you say again?" Sam asks finally realising what I said, I look away from him for a few seconds
"Yeah, again" I say "you had a child?" Sam asks "I did, she was just beautiful. I had her very young" I say "what happened to her?" Sam asks "they took her away from me" I say "HYDRA?" Sam asks "yeah, before they took me they found her" I say my eyes filling with tears "they killed her in front of me. She was only 5" I say "does Steve and Bucky know? Or Loki?" Sam asks "they know" I say "please you can't tell anyone" I say "I won't, you have my word" Sam says and I nod
Sam and I sit in silent for a couple of minutes before back inside for dinner
"We have a mission" Tony says as we walk "hydra?" I ask and he nods "we found another hydra base in England" Tony says "okay" I say before walking away "are you sure you're up for this?" Bucky asks following me into my room "this is my chance to get them back for this" I say seriously "maybe we could stay" Bucky says and I frown while I begin to pack my bags "having the avengers gone it would be just us and Loki. You used to love that" Bucky says "I'll tell you what, James" I say putting my bag down "I know you're trying to protect me and I understand that, I would die before you got hurt. But personal business should not affect my ability to keep other people safe" I say "I'm sorry, you're right. This mission may actually be better for you then staying here" Bucky says "thank you" I say and walk over to him "I love you, so much and I need this okay" i says "okay" Bucky replies before kissing me softly "I love you too" Bucky whispers leaning his forehead against mine
