You Left Me

See, I really wasn't going to talk to Cody. I had no intention of talking to him, but then he cornered me in my room before we left this terrible household. Pure rage was storming in his eyes as he tried his best not to yell. There were still children downstairs.

"I hate you." He hissed.

I sat on my bed with a plop, "That's really nice."

He took a step to me, "I thought you were dead! Why the hell did you let me think that?"

All I could do was shrug. Over the years my anger towards him has really built up. Though now probably isn't the best time to let him know that.

"All I get is a shrug?! I goddamn shrug?!"

I took a deep breath, "Please stop Cody."

He chuckled darkly, "Why? I think I deserve more than a shrug."

Of fuck you, and fuck it's not the best time.

"AND I DESERVED MORE THAN TO BE LEFT!" I shot up so we were inches apart, "I don't know why you care Cody. Before I 'died', " I poked a finger at his chest, "You left me. You disappeared, and fucking broke me. So no, you don't deserve more than a goddamn shrug."

His face fell.

He swallowed hard and lowered his voice, "It wasn't my choice."

I titled my head to the side, "Not your choice?! You left and then showed up a year later with a girlfriend! Every time I saw you, you rubbed it in my face. From the whispers, to the the little kisses. You- you watched me break, over and over again. You acted like nothing happened, and my dad expected me to act the same way."

He took a small step back, "My mom made me."

I threw my hands into the air, "YOU COULD'VE TOLD ME!" I hushed my voice so it was barely audible, "I would've understood Cody."

He shook his head, "You moved on fine anyway, and never told me."

"I couldn't tell you Cody, hell I couldn't even tell you I knew the man. I couldn't, because deep down I thought you'd come back for me." I shook my head, "I was naive, and still believed in fairy tales."

I walked over to the door and sighed. "You can be mad at me all you want, but think about what you going to say before you say it next time."

I grabbed my packed bag, and left the room. I threw it in the car with a huff, and went over to Ten who was standing outside on her phone.

"I never got to ask if you were ok." I looked her over.

She shoved her phone in her pocket with a little chuckle, "I'm all good. I stepped outside because Marco called me again, and got hit on the head."

I scoffed a little, "Always check your surroundings, it's rule number one."

She sighed, "I heard shouting, everything ok?"

"Fine, Cody just got mad and then I got mad." I shook my head a little, "Apparently his mom made him disappear for a year, and then come back with a girl."

Ten laughed a little, "She did hate your family you know."

"Yeah, I know. Fucking hated dad, couldn't even speak to him for more than three seconds."

Mom walked out with the boys at her side, "You guys talking about Cody's mom?"

We both nodded. She bent down to the boys, and whispered something to them before they ran over to her car.

"I'm surprised he didn't recognize you." She placed a hand on my shoulder.

I rolled my eyes, "I had bleached pink, and blue hair. AND, I acted like a normal teenage girl at the time."

She shook me a little, "But still. How did you not remember him?"

I carefully slipped out of her grab on my shoulder, "I don't know. Maybe I did, and just wanted to believe it wasn't him."

She sighed and looked down, "You know who his dad is?"

I shrugged, "I've got an idea."

Ten looked between us confused, "You do?"

Me and my mother answered at the same time, "The new director."

Her eyes widened, and I was pretty proud of myself for figuring it out.

"The big bald dude?"

I burst out laughing, and mom slapped Tennessee's head.

I clutched my stomach, and controlled my laughter. "Yes, the big bald dude."

Mom sighed, "He can't know."

"Why not?" Ten asked.

"He doesn't want him to."

I scoffed, "That's a bullshit reason."

She sighed, "I know, but you need to keep it a secret. It's what he wants."

I shook my head, "I mean he already hates me, so what's one more thing."

Mom scrunched up her face, "Why does he hate you?"

Ten answered for me, "He got mad because she let him believe she was dead."

Mom scoffed, and Asher started calling her name. "It was good to see you Harley.... and you." She looked to Ten for a moment.

She gave me a hug, and walked off.

Ten laughed a little, "She still hates me."

I nodded with a smile, "Yes she does. You ready to head out?"

She nodded. "Where're we going?"

We started walking over to the car, "Back to the house in California. The agency thinks that's where her base of operations is."

Ten got in the driver's seat, and I hopped in the passengers. She honked the horn a few times and the three came jogging out. Everyone was silent the entire time back to California. No one knew what to say, and it was obvious something serious was going on between Cody, and I. On the jet ride, Ten tried to get me to talk to him but I refused. He also tried to talk to me a few times, but I wouldn't let him. I wasn't in a mood to talk to the man that got mad over something so small compared to how he treated me. Sure his mother forced him, but we were closer than that. If he told me, I would've accepted it.

Five years of my life flew by. Three of them I blame on him. Chase, my daughter, my wife. It all happened so fast, and all because I was trying to ignore Cody. Because I had fallen for him, and he chose to throw that away.
