Angsty Leopika Headcanons (TW)

TW: toxic relationships, invalidation of trauma, death, nightmares

• I feel like their relationship would be so on and off or like hot and cold. When it's good, it's really good and they're both at their best and happier than they've ever been. When it's bad, they're both fighting, distressed, upset, in horrible moods, etc

• Around Leorio, Kurapika feels a lot smarter and superior. But at the same token, he feels like a shitty person compared to Leorio's altruistic behavior

• I think Kurapika would invalidate Leorio's trauma a lot. During arguments he'd say something like "you don't know what I'm going through! You've never experienced this kind of pain!" To an extent, I agree, Leorio hasn't experienced his entire clan's death. But it's not a matter of who's trauma is worse, their traumas are both that- traumatic. And they shouldn't be compared because they're both extremely different and Kurapika just doesn't understand that

• They're REALLY passive aggressive when they're in actual arguments and it's upsetting to both of them

• Kurapika never ever apologizes for things, even when it's his fault and it pisses Leorio off so much because he's always the one who ends up apologizing for things that weren't even his fault

• Their relationship/friendship (whichever you wanna see it as because this works in both ways) is super one sided. Leorio is always there for Kurapika whenever he needs him. He's there to pick up after him, to patch him up, to cheer him on. Kurapika is never there for Leorio, always has priorities over him, and is ready to leave him at the drop of a hat. This isn't to say Kurapika doesn't care for/love Leorio, he does, but I just think he doesn't know how to show it and doesn't know how to move on from his past

• Maybe the reason Kurapika pushes Leorio and everyone else away is because he doesn't believe he deserves love after getting his clan killed (check chapter 22 for my headcanon on why it's Kurapikas "fault")

• I can just see Leorio listening to "I Want You" by Mitski, thinking about Kurapika late at night and just being on the verge of tears the entire song

• Kurapika has had countless nightmares about Leorio's death, ranging from minor and hazy to so clear and terrifying, he thought he actually died. He calls/talks to/wakes up Leorio after every dream he has about him, just so he can hear his voice and hear that he's okay. Or he listens to the voicemails he left him

• I feel like Kurapika would storm out whenever he and Leorio are arguing and he realizes Leorio is right. This is so detrimental for a few reasons. Obviously, it's toxic not letting your partner be right, even when you know they are and it's HELLA manipulative. Secondly, Leorio would probably panic whenever Kurapika leaves and would worry non stop he left for good because he was being so annoying. There's so many more reasons why it's bad but those are the most prominent. Like tell me Kurapika wouldn't pull this shit ugh

A/N: holy hell writing all of these made me look at Leopika in a whole new light. As in, a toxic light. And it's kinda sad now. I feel like all of them are pretty true though and the fact that I've ruined my favorite ship makes me HXHEJDB UGH okay bye thanks for reading my mental decline
