"Babe, do you want butterscotch or chocolate?" Lucy nudged Natsu who was scarfing down the remainder of the cakes.
"Babe, are you even listening to me?" Lucy smiled when Natsu leaned over the table and gave her a messy kiss.
"Yes, I am listening to you and I like them both. Why can't we get a chocolate cake with butterscotch icing on it?" Natsu said as he took a drink of water.
"That could work. Sir, can the baker prepare 12 chocolate cakes with butterscotch icing for the wedding?" Lucy hoped they could do it, she secretly wanted both of them as well.
"Yes ma'am, that can be arranged for the wedding. Will that be all Ms. Heartfilia?"
"Yes, I think that's it." Lucy poked Natsu, signaling him it was time to go.
It had been two weeks since since Natsu and Lucy found out that she was pregnant and so far she had done all the food sampling some and Natsu did all the wine tasting. He looked happier than she did about getting married. He was ever so excited when he drove the truck over to her apartment to officially move her out of the building. She said her farewells to the landlady and walked out a happily pregnant, engaged woman. Lucy knew the happiest person of all this news and excitement was her soon to be mother-in-law, Grandine and soon to be father-in-law, Igneel.
She only had one more thing to deal with and that would the hardest, her father: Jude Heartfilia. She had told her father that they were dating but she never told him that they were this serious nor did she say anything about her impending pregnancy. The day had come to tell her father, she and Natsu walked hand in hand up the driveway of her modest childhood home. She hadn't expected him to be home at this hour but the sooner she told him about it, the sooner she would get the huge weight of deception she had off her chest. She knocked on the door hoping for a quick reply she though to her sled to be careful what you wish for. Within seconds the door was opened and she and Natsu stepped into the house.
"What brings you here to the house Lucy?" Lucy could hear her father's voice boom through the living room where she used the watch TV.
"I came to introduce you to Natsu, Dad, he's the guy I told you about." Lucy stepped forward and sat on the chair, meeting her father at eye level.
"Good afternoon Mr. Heartfilia, it's a pleasure to meet you." Natsu extended his hand, getting a firm handshake from the middle aged man.
"Mr. Dragneel, I've heard only of you." Jude retorted.
"Dad, I have some great news: we're engaged and I'm pregnant." Lucy was blunt and straight to the point.
"Really? When is the wedding going to happen? I suspect that it is sometime soon." Jude replied.
"It's gonna be in two weeks, I hope you will be able to attend; I would really appreciate it if you could make." Lucy said with hope in her voice.
"I'll try." Jude looked at Natsu, making him feel a bit uncomfortable and made him shift nervously in his seat.
"Natsu you'll be marrying my daughter, may I have a word with you alone?" Jude motioned for Natsu to follow him into his study, Natsu squeezed Lucy's hand and got up, walking behind him. Jude closed the door behind him and walked slowly to the book shelf on the right side of the room. He took one book out and sat down, opening the book and blowing the dust off its contents.
"Natsu, let me show you something." Natsu walked over to him, taking a seat beside him.
"Lucy has always been my pride and joy, she is everything to me and I've never been able to tell her. I was wondering if perhaps you can do me the favor of telling her one of these days." Natsu looked at him confused, then he took a look down at the book noting that it was a photo album filled pictures of Lucy and her mother Layla. Lucy is the spitting image of her mother.
"Mr. Heartfilia, I know that you can tell Lucy what you want her to know, she'll understand whatever you have to say." Natsu looked at him with hope only to have Jude to look back at him with despair. Natsu could tell that his soon to be father-in-law was desperately and madly still in love with Lucy's mother and never really got over her after her death. He could tell that looking at Lucy brought back wonderful and painful memories of his late wife, Natsu could admit he would feel the same way if Lucy ever died, he was bound to her in every sense of the word. Jude got up and walked over to his desk, opened a drawer and pulled out a small green velvet box.
"Natsu, this is the ring I gave to Lucy's mother the day we married and now I want you to give it to her. She always had her eyes on it as a child, now she has the opportunity to marry a man that is worth her heart. Please take care of my daughter, she is all I have left Layla and I don't want to lose her too." With that, Natsu shook his head and walked out. He saw Lucy sitting on the terrace and walked out to join her.
"Hey, baby; how are you feeling?" Lucy intertwined her fingers into Natsu's ones.
"Calm, very calm." Lucy indeed felt calm, looking out at the scenery that once held her heart. She loved this house and everyone in it.
"Come on Natsu, we have a wedding to finish plan and I still haven't picked out a dress." She pulled on his arm dragging Natsu forward. All he had heard since they had gotten engaged was caterers, cake tasting and table settings; he was for the food but he and Lucy haven't had a moment of peace since the planning started. They got in the car and drove off, Natsu thinking to himself that maybe he should take her to the house tonight and blow off some steam introducing Lucy to her new walk in closet in the new master bedroom. She wasn't allowed there until it was done but he had gotten a call in the day saying it was done.
"Lucy, how about we take a spin at mom's and the head home to our newly finished house." Lucy lit up like a Christmas tree, finally being able to see the new features of the house.
"Really babe, I'm so excited to see. We can't wait to see mama Grandine, now can we." Natsu smiled at Lucy, gently placing her hand over her belly.
"Do you think she'll have food?" Lucy quipped at Natsu.
"Mom always has food, always." Natsu replied driving down the pathway and ending in the garage. He opened the door that led to the kitchen, hearing footsteps come down the stairs and through the hall.
"Natsu, sweetheart, what are you doing here?" Grandine queried.
"Lucy was hungry and I was hungry and the baby was hungry too so we came to eat, mom!!" Natsu smiled, looking through the fridge.
"Baby? What baby? Natsu Dragneel, what aren't you telling me?" Grandine looked shocked.
"Lucy's pregnant, didn't I tell you when I told you we were getting married." Natsu said in a matter of fact tone.
"You're getting married?" Lucy looked at Natsu playing innocent, with his puppy dog eyes and lips sticking out.
"He didn't tell you. We've been engaged for like two weeks." Lucy threw her hands up and rolled her eyes.
"Your husband is an idiot." Grandine said bluntly.
"You're pregnant!!!!" Grandine squealed, making Igneel and Wendy rush downstairs to see what the commotion was all about.
"Mom, what happened? You scared me and dad." Wendy walked over to Lucy giving her a hug.
"Igneel, Wendy, Lucy's pregnant!" Grandine and Wendy squealed this time making sure that everyone heard them. Igneel walked over to Lucy and gave her a big hug.
"I can't believe I'm going to be a grandpa." Igneel pulled Wendy and Grandine into the hug with Natsu watching the way his family loved Lucy. He loved Lucy exactly the same way or even more; he could tell that when the baby was born the noise would get louder but he didn't mind, it was exactly where he saw himself.
