Chapter 15 – No...
"No." Natsu's heart sank, like the titanic.
"What do mean 'no,' Lucy?" Natsu couldn't think straight.
"No Natsu, I said no." Lucy was on the verge of tears, her heart and her head and her body screamed yes but for some reason her mouth said no. Natsu got up and walked out of her apartment, not giving a second thought that he was leaving the ring and his heart with her. He walked across the lobby, outside to his car and drove away.
Lucy watched Natsu walk away and close the door but she couldn't find the strength to get up and follow him. She sat there with tears rolling down her face, hiccupping furiously. She practically willed herself to get up and get some water to soothe the dryness she felt in her mouth. She slid down the counter sides and started crying even louder until she fell asleep, the morning she hoped would present something new.
Natsu drove to his house, hoping to get his mind off of Lucy with no avail. He couldn't completely wrap around his head the answer she gave him – NO. He didn't know what he did wrong but then again he wasn't in many relationships to get much experience. He walked into his room and lazily pulled his clothes and fell onto his bed, restlessly shifting side to side before falling into a second-rate sleep.
Lucy woke up to the sound of the doorbell going off like a lantern, getting up not worrying how she looked, she opened the door to find Natsu standing in her doorway with his hands in his pockets. Natsu looked at Lucy – she looked the way he felt. Natsu always thought that Lucy looked extra sexy when she got up in the morning; she looked so natural, her hair dishevelled and her skin always had a beautiful tint to it. Today, she looked like she had dragged through the mill and back but Natsu came with his mind-set on asking why she said no.
He couldn't resist and before he knew it he was kissing her like he had gone to war and not kissed her for years. He picked her up, locked the door behind him and walked over to the bathroom to put both of them through the shower. It's what they needed. Natsu watched Lucy undress, she looked like she didn't have the energy to get through the day but a part of him enjoyed the slow undressing she was doing and he spent the time enjoying the view.
Lucy finished undressing and turned to see Natsu staring at her before he looked away; she immediately blushed as he began undressing, remembering that she fell in love with him on a physical level after the emotional one. She could never get enough of his rock hard abs and toned arms and legs; his body spent a lot of time loving hers so much she couldn't even think about letting him go and yet she said no.
Natsu pulled her into the shower letting the water run down her body before soaping her up. By now Natsu knew every nook and cranny about her but yet he didn't explore her body the way he usually did and then the tears started their way down her cheek, leaving trails of salt along her cheeks until Natsu kissed them away.
He rinsed her body completely of soap before turning off the water and joining her in her bedroom. The bed looked like it had not been slept in and it still smelled of her perfume from the night before. He watched her dry off her body and felt weird watching her do it because he had always been the one to fight with her about doing it himself. He dried himself off and dropped the towel before pulling her into a warm hug.
"Natsu?" Lucy's voice was trembling, Natsu could feel it through Lucy's body.
"Yes Lucy?" Natsu was scared of what she would say but she had already said the worst to him but he couldn't figure out why he would have waned answers to the response that she had given. He was sure that whatever she had to say was conveyed through her 'NO'.
"Why did I say 'no'?" Lucy looked up at Natsu for answers. He couldn't come up with answer for the question he wanted to ask.
"I don't know, that's what I want to know. I also want to know why you're crying; I should be the one that's crying you know." He smiled at her innocence and naïve nature.
"Ask me again, Natsu, ask me again." Natsu looked at her and couldn't help but to do her bidding. The old fashioned way, he got down on one knee and looked up at her without the ring in his hand.
"Lucy Heartfilia, will you marry me?" Natsu knew that any answer she gave wouldn't harm; he wondered why she was doing this. He began to wonder if she like to see him squirm or maybe she was just toying with hi---
"Yes." Lucy was smiling like it was the first time she had felt the sun against her skin.
"Yes, you said yes?" Natsu looked at her with a confused face.
"Yes, I said yes. I want to be Mrs. Natsu Dragneel for the rest of forever and ever." Natsu shot up like a bullet throwing Lucy on the bed with him on top of her.
"Don't ever scare me like that again. Do you know how fucking confused and out of my mind I was going? God, I love you so much never make me feel that way again, please!" Natsu hid his face in her bosom, slowly drifting into a deep sleep in the best place he could think about, right beside his bride to be.
