I couldn't deny that I was missing the place where I grew up.
Almost a month after coming here in Tokyo, I still couldn't seem to enjoy the city. I was missing my former home, my friends, and most of all, my whole life.
And my whole life was in Wakayama, my home town.
My dad was stationed to work here in Tokyo so we had no choice but to leave Wakayama and start a new life here. It wasn't easy for me, though. City life was new to me and I was still adjusting to the environment, especially to the environment of my new school. Adjusting sure was hard but after almost a month, I realized that I liked some of the things here in Tokyo. For example, the amazing Skytree. I could still remember how I gaped the first time I saw it. I also like the city lights at night. I like my new school.
And most of all, I adore the dorayaki in the convenience store just a walk away from my home.
Buying a dorayaki from that store has become part of my after school routine. I first discovered it when I came across the store as I was walking home during my first week here. The dorayaki there was perfect that I ended up stopping by the store everyday just to buy it. And from then, it had became my favorite.
The familiar smell of the convenience store met my nose the moment I pushed the glass doors open. Cold air touched my face because of the airconditioning, refreshing my whole being. I took a deep breath and just like what I'd been doing the past weeks, I walked in and politely smiled to a store clerk who met my gaze near the entrance.
Aside from the fact that I loved the dorayaki here, I actually liked this particular store because of the calm and peaceful ambience. Just like any other day, there were quite a few people inside. With my school bag in my hand, I immediately started walking towards the aisle where the dorayakis were located and before I could even get near, I saw that the dorayaki shelf was almost empty.
And there, only one dorayaki was left displayed.
Only one left? I sighed in relief. At least I'll be getting that last one.
I was about to take the last dorayaki from the shelf but I stopped when I heard the faint ring tone of my flip phone. I immediately rummaged through my bag and found out that it was my mom calling me, and just as I was about to answer it, the phone slipped out of my stupid hand and it fell on the floor with in a loud cracking sound. My eyes widened when I saw my poor phone on the floor. It must've fallen the bad way that the battery and the back casing literally got seperated from its main body.
I fought a groan. Oh, come on.
Dropping my bag, I picked up the phone from the floor and immediately put the battery and the casing back. Good thing this thing was tough as hell so I wasn't really worried about it getting damaged since I knew that it'll still work, anyway. I sent my mom a message saying that I was already on my way home so she didn't have to call and put the phone back in my bag before it slipped again from my hand.
And finally, the moment came that I was about to pick up my lone precious dorayaki from the shelf but my brows pulled together when out of nowhere, a hand appeared and snatched it away right before I could even move.
I stared at the now totally empty shelf for a moment before I turned my head to my right. With my forehead creased, I looked at the owner of the hand that snatched the last dorayaki that was supposedly mine. "What the hell?"
The person looked at me and I was met by a pair of bored, sleepy eyes.
It was a guy. Holding the dorayaki in his hand, he looked at me somewhat confused. I took a swift look of him from head to toe and immediately guessed that he was just around my age. He was wearing a plain white shirt, a black pants, and a simple slippers.
My brows raised a little when my eyes landed on his hair. It was pretty long, reaching the top of his shoulders, and dyed blonde. A small portion of hair above his forehead was tied, preventing it from covering his face.
I stopped. He actually looked kinda, uhm, cute?
I came back to my senses when I realized that he was still looking at me with a bored 'what?' expression on his face. He was waiting for me to speak.
I cleared my throat and said, "the dorayaki."
"Huh?" He looked at the dorayaki in his hands. "What?"
"I was supposed to get that," I answered. "I mean, I came here first. That's mine."
He looked at me for like three seconds before he said, "mine now."
And with that, he turned around and started walking towards the counter with the dorayaki. My eyes widened. What the hell?
"Hey!" I called. "That's mine! I was the first one to--"
He stopped and turned back. "This is a store, you don't own anything here."
I paused. Oh. I mean, he's got a point but--
"I literally was just about to get it when you snatched it."
"Too slow, it's your fault."
"But my phone fell so I had to--" I sighed in frustration. I would literally die for a dorayaki right now! I just couldn't let him get it! I was about to speak again when he suddenly started opening the plastic wrapper of the dorayaki and my mouth gaped in disbelief when he literally took a bite from it.
The hell? Did he just--
"Sorry, but I'm hungry," he said, an annoying smile plastered on his face. "Next time be quick."
He turned around and walked to the counter, and I was left there standing alone in front of the empty dorayaki shelf. I was too shocked at what he just did so I just stood there, looking at him as he pay for the dorayaki, even saying sorry to the cashier for unwrapping it and taking a bite before paying.
And just like that, he left the store without even looking back at me.
I have never been so pissed in my whole life, I swear to God. I found myself clenching my fist, fighting the urge to scream and curse. Why did I even think he's cute? He's a dickhead!
I went home that afternoon, hungry and pissed as hell. I was tired, and most of all, I wasn't able to eat the only thing that I've been craving for the entire day--the dorayaki--and all beacause of that annoying blonde creature on the store.
I'll never forget that blonde guy!
