It takes about two weeks before Joe runs into Amber at the studio. Jordan had done a good job keeping her on an opposite recording schedule than Joe. Today Joe was running late though.

Joe speaks first as they pass in the hall, to Amber's surprise. "Hey Amber."

"Hi Joe. How's it going?"

Joe actually stops to talk to her. "Things are good. How're you? How's the new house? It ready for the kid to sleep over?"

"Yeah. I got his room all set up. So whenever you're ready for me to have him overnight I'm ready." Amber feels hopeful for the first time since she got back. Maybe things with Joe would be okay.

"How's Friday sound. I need to get an early start Saturday training and if he stayed with you Friday night I wouldn't have to worry about him in the morning. I could just get up and get started."

"Training?"

"Yeah I'm running the marathon this year. I need to run everyday, but only get to when I can fit it around the kid's schedule. I could really use the extra time."

Amber smiles, happy he's trusting her. "Yeah of course I'd love to keep him Friday night. Maybe you and I can get together tonight and talk about do's and don'ts, and stuff. Like what he likes and doesn't like."

"Nah, you don't need me for that. The kid's pretty easy to figure out. You're his Mom, go with your gut. You'll be fine. Alright gotta get running. See you later Amber." He smiles, touches her arm and walks away. His touch leaves her skin feeling hot. She wants to feel his touch more. All over her body. She's missed his touch.

It takes every bit of Joe's will power not to turn around and look at Amber as he walks away. He can't stop thinking about how good it felt to touch her. Just that tiny touch was almost enough to destroy his resolve. He can't let that happen though, he's got to stay strong.  He can't let his attraction to her blind him to the fact that he and Amber just aren't meant to be. They've made that mistake before and it only leads to one of them ending up heartbroken.

Joe pulls up outside Amber's new house and he begins to feel anxious. Every time he sees her his heart seems to soften just a little bit more. He has to constantly remind himself they're no good for each other. The only relationship they can have now is as co-parents to the amazing kid they share. Joe looks up into his rear view mirror at his son looking at him. His blue eyes full of happiness and the best smile on his face. "You ready to see mommy kid?"

"Yes Daddy. Wanna see mommy."

Joe smiles back at his son. "Alright kid. You want to stay with mommy all night? Sleep at her house?"

"Yes Daddy."

Joe gets Joey out of the car and they hold hands as they walk to the door. Joey pulls away from Joe and runs to knock first. Joe's still a few feet away when Amber opens the door. Joe stops in his tracks when he sees her bending over to scoop up Joey. He sees down her shirt and God help him he gets half hard. This reaction takes Joe by surprise. He's always found himself extremely attracted, sexually to Amber, but this is ridiculous to him.

As ridiculous as it feels he finds himself checking Amber out. Tight yoga pants that show off her amazing ass. A loose fitting shirt that falls off one shoulder and hangs just right on her beautiful tits. "Joe? Joe? Did you hear me?"

Her voice snaps him out of his dirty thoughts. "I'm sorry, did you ask me something?"

"I was just asking if you'd like to come in, maybe take a look at my new place." Amber sits Joey down and motions for Joe to come in. "Yeah, sure." He follows behind her, looking at each room as she points them out. But his eyes keep finding her ass more appealing than her study, her guest bathroom or her guest room. Joe however does take a closer look when they get to the door of her bedroom. His eyes linger on her bed. When Joe looks back at Amber, her eyes are on him. He thinks she may be thinking about the same thing he is. How good the sex between them was. Joe knows he's got to get out of there before he completely forgets why they can't ever be together again.

"I better get going. I've got a busy morning. I'll pick the kid up tomorrow before dinner." Joe turns to go but she grabs his arm. "Joe wait." Before she can say anything else Joe has her back against the wall, one hand on the wall next to her head. He doesn't say anything, he just stares into her eyes. He pushes her hair off her face and tucks it behind her ear, he runs his finger down her jawline. Joe leans forward, his lips are just inches from hers. She can feel his breath against her mouth. But his lips never touch hers. Joe rests his forehead against hers and whispers, "Amber, I'm sorry, I can't."

Joe steps back and takes one last look at her before leaving. "Have a good night Amber."

All the way back to his house Joe thinks about turning around. Going back and finishing what he started. Joe doesn't understand this reaction, it's not like he hasn't been with other women. He's been casually seeing someone for the past few months. It's nothing serious just kind of a friends with benefits type of situation. Pretty great benefits, but still not serious.

Joe suddenly has an idea, maybe it's time to take things to the next level. Maybe that's what it'll take to get over Amber for good. He hasn't had a serious relationship since Amber, he's been too afraid of getting burned again. But maybe it's time.
